“T’uther Cottage” (best said with a Northern England accent) is a 2 bedroomed 200+ year old cottage with an Oak beamed roof .The cottage was completely renovated and modernised over 5 years being completed in 2019.
Located in a quiet village 3 miles from the UNESCO world heritage site of the Lake district National park,less than 4 miles from the Georgian gem town of Cockermouth and 6 miles from the Solway coast the variety of scenery and activities are endless. The cottage blends original features of Oak beams in the roof that were recycled 200 years ago from former sailing ships plus an original stone fire place with everyday modern comforts such as Wifi ,Washing machine and central heating.
The cottage contains 2 upstairs bedrooms. The 1st bedroom has a double bed, the second bedroom has 2 single beds and these can be combined with the option to use a fully sprung bed settee in the downstairs lounge. ( NOTE THE COTTAGE IS NOT SUITABLE FOR 5 ADULTS).
Upstairs in addition to the 2 bedrooms there is also a full size bathroom containing seperate bath and shower.
Downstairs the lounge features an original stone fireplace with stove and timbered ceiling which are complimented by Oak flooring made from locally sourced Cumbrian Oak timber. In the lounge in addition to the TV and a selection of DVD's you will also find a selection of childrens and family games provided for your enjoyment, alongside Information on local attractions and places to visit. Off the lounge is a seperate dining area.The fitted kitchen contains Hob,Oven, Microwave, Fridge,Freezer and Washing machine.
For families with young children a travel cot and high chair are available on request.
Outside to the rear of the property is a self contained private raised garden with outdoor table and chairs and a gas BBQ.
PLEASE NOTE though we welcome pets the rear garden is NOT suitable to exercise pets but there are suitable walks within 15 meters of the property.
Pets are not to be left unattended in the property at ANY time.
On arrival guests are provided with a complimentary welcome pack that includes tea,coffee,sugar,hot chocolate and milk.There is free parking available in an off road communal car park 20 metres away.
If you are here to see the Lakes themselves Loweswater, Buttermere, Crummock water, Ennerdale water, Bassenthwaite and Derwent water are all within a 20 minute drive. Further afield the historic city of Carlisle ,Gretna Green, the Southern Lake District and the UNESCO World heritage site of Hadrians wall can be reached in around 1 hour by car.
In addition to the fells and lakes of the Lake District National Park the cottage is ideally located to explore the unspoilt Solway coast an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.This quiet village location offers a change from the busy tourist hotspots of Keswick and Ambleside whilst still having the beauty of the surrounding local area with country walks starting from outside your front door . For history lovers the neighbouring village of Eaglesfield can claim to be the birth place of John Dalton proposer of the modern Atomic theory and Fletcher Christian of Mutiny on the Bounty fame.
