La'al Cottage1 bedroomed Cottage Western Lake District and Coast ( Pet Friendly)

Built around 1780 the perfect cosy country hide away for 2.
Situated in a quiet village 3 miles from the Lake district National park, less than 5 miles from the Georgian gem town of Cockermouth and 6 miles from the Solway coast the variety of scenery and activities are endless. It's our pleasure to share our lovingly modernised cottage which blends original features such as Oak beamed vaulted roof and stone fire place with everyday modern comforts eg. Wifi, fitted kitchen and central heating. In addition to the double bedroom upstairs there is a bed seatee suitable for 1 adult or 2 children in the down stairs lounge.
With country walks and cycling start outside your door the cottage is also perfectly located between the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the fells and lakes of the Lake District National Park and the unspoilt Solway coast which is desiganted as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
This quiet village location offers a change from the busy tourist hotspots of Keswick and Ambleside whilst still having the beauty of the surrounding local area with country walks starting from outside your front door . IN the next village there is a dog friendly pub which serves serving excellent food and the town of Cockermouth is only 4 miles away offers a full range of shops and restuarants. For history lovers the neighbouring village of Eaglesfield can claim to be the birth place of John Dalton proposer of the modern Atomic theory and Fletcher Christian of Mutiny on the Bounty fame.
If you are here to see the Lakes themselves Loweswater, Buttermere, Crummock water, Ennerdale water, Bassenthwaite and Derwent water are all within a 20 minute drive. Further afield the historic city of Carlisle ,Gretna Green, the Southern Lake District and the UNESCO World heritage site of Hadrians wall can be reached in around 1 hour by car.
The cottage is only a 5 minute drive from the main A66 East/West trunk road. The nearest railway station is Workington 5 miles away.
There is no public transport to the village however the nearest bus stop to Workington, Cockermouth or Keswick is about one mile away so own transport is advisable.

Return stay
Just like last year the cottage is immaculate and extremely well set up. Perfect base for a break with my dog from which to explore the western lakes and coast. Howard & Jen were helpful as always - many thanks.

EXCELLENT!
I stayed for 5 nights with my dog and cannot fault the property, location (the Western Lakes are so much quieter than the rest of the Lake District) or the owners Howard and Jen for whom nothing is too much trouble. I certainly plan to return. Thank you.

First Class Hosts and property.
La’al Cottage is a lovely homely cottage with everything you need for a perfect stay. Howard and Jen have really thought about everything you might need to the smallest detail. The welcome pack had loads of home cooked goodies to die for and also wine, beer and basics like milk, tea, coffee, hot chocolate and condiments. There were even dog snacks for our labradors. Howard gave us excellent written directions for finding the cottage and also lists of places to visit, local pubs, restaurants and cafes, which was really helpful. Howard also came to check everything was in order when we first arrived and we then saw him to chat to when we were walking the dogs around the village. Greysouthen is a quiet village which is a great location for visiting the Eastern lakes, which is what we did whilst there. You could also visit the Cumbrian Coast or local Towns like Cockermouth. All in all we received a very warm welcome to La’al Cottage (and not just from the very effective central heating!).

Lovely cottage
Thank you for making me feel so welcomed, all the tips, like the train to Edinburgh, and little suprise gifts at the cottage. The cottage is really beautiful. Even tough the weather wasn't always on my side, it really enjoyed my week here and hope to come back again.
