Okay house, volatile owner
The house was fine. Comfortable for a family of 4. Pool is small by pool standards, but it was appropriate for a family with very young kids. House was nicely set up when we arrived, so I appreciate that the owner put thought into creating a good first impression.
Overall, my family had a pretty good time, but a few issues dragged down the rating for me:
1) Some of the towels smelled musty/mildew-y
2) There was a toaster that worked, but the bottom piece that supports the bread was broken and as a result the toaster consistently burned half the bread slice while the other half remained un-toasted
3) I appreciate that the owner was upfront and included in the listing that guests should bring toilet paper, paper towels, and trash bags. But, not providing these items leads to a bad guest experience.
4) There are quite a few bugs in the house. We squashed the largest millipede I have ever seen (7-inches), and while laying in bed reading at night, I averaged killing 3 moths that I felt fly into me.
5) The owner seemed pretty good for the majority of our interactions. However, there was one issue where I paid for pool heat via Venmo the day before my stay, and the owner confirmed receipt and thanked me. Then, after I arrived, the owner complained about Venmo charging her a $7 fee. I tried to explain why this made sense. But, she wouldn't have a conversation with me about it and ultimately said I had to pay her to cover the fee or LEAVE THE PROPERTY. Very volatile individual...
