I really wanted to like this place well enough to return, but they are losing it in the details. The good: it is lovely well-designed property overall. Very tasteful minimal decor in the lobby, atrium, and rooms. We stayed in one of the deluxe rooms with two balconies, and the view is everything— perhaps better than pictures. Our room was kept very clean overall except for problems with linens (see below). The rain shower is nice, and they have organic locally made shampoos and soap.
The bad: the number one thing that soured my experience was that the room was sweltering when we arrived (past a standard check in time). All you want after a long day of travel and a hot cab ride is the peace of your room, but we couldn’t be in there at all for the first few hours. I know an official answer might be that leaving the air off until you arrive is an eco thing, but it’s probably more of a cheap thing, and it’s just too hot for that. Plus this made us run the air nonstop the whole time, so…
Other things: the second biggest thing is that they have built a lovely bar and cafe, but it’s only open till 1pm. We would have given them so much money and enjoyed that convenience. The towels are rough and visibly shredded, and there were numerous spots on our sheets. We also had a night when the power went out and their generator does not power the air. This was miserable— probably just a limitation of the island, but have some fans dammit! Or offer to check us out immediately.
