Not a five star
This hotel is more of a cultural experience for those looking specifically for that type of holiday. It has many cultural 'activities' which were interesting when accesible, but not particularly well organised.
The hotel is a symapthetically renovated old mansion. It's amenties are thus very much in keeping with local village traditions and 'environmentally appropriate', but definitely not five star. The public rooms were freezing and when not in their rooms, guests were requested to turn off their electric heaters. Hot water was limited to specific times of the day. I wasn't personally inconvenienced by this, but it conveyed the atmosphere of a boarding house.
The local village in which the hotel is situated is very attractive and interesting, but it is about a half hour taxi ride to Dali.
A plus was that English was well understood and the staff were highly educated amd motivated.
The Linden Centre was by far the most expensive hotel at which I stayed during my 19-day trip to China and I did not think it was value for money and would not recommend it.
I notice this hotel has rave reviwes on TripAdvisor and that's what attracted me there. However, I was disappointed.
