Goodwin Sands Cottage - 50 meters from the beach

Just a stone’s throw from the sea, Goodwin Sands Cottage is perfectly placed for you to enjoy all the many charms of Deal. Its peaceful location guarantees a good night’s sleep, yet the lively High Street with its quirky independent shops, markets and cafés is a mere stroll away along the unspoilt promenade. An even shorter walk brings you to the Strand, where you’ll find the green and bandstand, a family run bakery, pubs, convenience stores and one of Deal’s best breakfast spots looking out over the Channel. You can even buy freshly caught fish direct from the boatmen on the beach. Everything you need is right here.
Deal itself is a picture perfect Georgian seaside town, rich in maritime history, with two proper castles, local museums and a striking modernist pier all worth a visit. Further afield within a thirty minute drive are Dover Castle, the cathedral city of Canterbury and the major shopping outlet at Ashford. If you prefer two legs or two wheels, there are plenty of country and coastal paths and trails just waiting to be explored.
Golfers, too, are spoilt for choice, with three superb British Open courses nearby – Royal St. Georges, Royal Cinque Ports and Princes. Also within reach are the attractions of Margate – Turner Contemporary, Dreamland and the extraordinary shell grotto, Dickensian Broadstairs, Ramsgate’s Royal Harbour, Whitstable and the picturesque Medieval streets of Sandwich.
Whatever takes your fancy, Goodwin Sands Cottage will make your stay a memorable and relaxing one. It has been tastefully renovated to a very high standard, with a light and airy lounge, cosy dining room and kitchen downstairs, two double bedrooms and bathroom with separate shower upstairs. The bathroom is accessed through the 2nd bedroom.

Perfect location
On a quiet street that is just a stone's throw from the beach and coastal path, some great cafes and a pub; plus an easy 15 minute walk into town, the rail station, pier etc.made this a perfect location for us. This cottage comfortably accommodated my wife and I, and was still comfortable for three when my sister came to stay with us for a few days. The host was very helpful and responsive (and very patient with two jet-lagged Americans trying to figure out the door lock (sorry for disturbing your dinner, sir). Free and convenient on-street parking.

Perfect cottage
Mark’s cottage was a delight to stay in. Firstly I want to thank him for the delicious fresh cream victoria sponge cake he left . It was a very nice gesture Everything in the cottage is considered even down to multiple coat hangers rather than the usual 2 or 3 found in rented accommodation. The get in and check out was the easiest process and Mark was always very prompt in replying to my emails about the property. Go you won’t be disappointed !

We booked this apartment after being gazumped by another VRBO property. We were travelling to The Open Golf at Sandwich. We had the other property booked about a year in advance and the day they announced The Open was going ahead (due to COVID-19) we received notification that they were unable to accommodate us. Very suspicious. Anyway cue the frantic search for another property 3 weeks before the competition (you have to understand here that everything gets booked up) that’s when we found this absolute gem. Reasonably priced and available. We booked straight away nervous that the same might happen again. No such thing we needn’t have worried. The owner was brilliant, just brilliant. He reassured us that the booking would stand and that we could stay. Minds put at ease. Indeed we did stay. It’s a lovely little 2 bedroom house. Downstairs a comfortable and nicely appointed living room through to dining room in the middle and upstairs access. Kitchen is at the back. Outside is a nice garden which we used to bbq one night and even has an outside loo (this was a really nice loo too not what you might imagine !). Upstairs one double bedroom to the front really nice and light and airy bed very comfortable indeed. To the back, bedroom two, again very large. You have to go through this bedroom to get to the large bathroom. This has a bath separate (large) shower cubicle and sink and toilet. It’s all very nicely done and really does have anything you could want. All rooms were spotless, check in was very very easy (instructions sent by owner so no contact handover) and the house was lovely. Great location. Literally one minute stroll and you can see the sea, 5-10 mins you’re in the main town. Loads of pubs and places to eat nearby too (I think we found three within a five minute walk). The owner even had Sky Sports installed so that we could watch the Golf in the evening. There was also Tea, Coffee and cake for our arrival which was an absolutely superb touch. I cannot recommend this place enough. Both the owner and the property are top notch and I wouldn’t hesitate to stay again if I was in this part of the world in the future. Nice accommodation one row back from the beach. The cottage is very well equipped with everything you would need for your stay. We contacted Mark a couple of times and he responded immediately. We were travelling with our two little dogs who greatly appreciated the jar of dog treats.

We have had an amazing week, staying in Mark's lovely cottage. It was very tastefully decorated, spotlessly clean and in a fantastic location - a great base from which to explore many local attractions. We visited Broadstairs (great beach for kids), Walmer Castle Gardens, hired bikes to St. Margaret's Bay and had a great time exploring beautiful Deal, itself. All communications with Mark were swift and helpful and the delicious cake in the fridge was a lovely welcoming touch. Thank you Mark!

Loved our stay at Goodwin Sands cottage - it was the perfect spot and had everything we needed. Beds were comfy, kitchen well stocked and came complete with a lovely little cake that was delicious! Having laundry was a definite plus. It's an easy walk into town and to our friends house as well. Would definitely recommend and stay again next time I visit.
