Arriving after a slow train/bus journey from Schipol, I was very disappointed with the first room I was offered. Strange arrangement in which you ascend one floor using an ancient lift, and find your way to an outside area through an inconspicuous door. The room reminded me of a 1970s backpacking hostel...perhaps in Athens! All electrical infrastructure through exposed conduits and a prominent, exposed pipe attached to the sprinkler system...very ugly and slightly spooky. Terrible peeling and cracked anaglypta wallpaper, too! So I asked to change room to something suitable for a business trip. The staff member agreed immediately. The second room was much nicer...though still with the weird approach from the outside area with dark quirky (Indonesian?) style furniture. Unusual decor but but I quite liked it. The problem was, without warning me, they added an extra 10 EUR per night...not much, I suppose, but an unwanted surprise on the bill. As there are few hotels in Den Hagen, you may have little choice but to stay here. If you do, be certain not to accept Room 120 and make sure you agree the price of any upgrade they offer you up front!
