A beautiful traditional ryokan inn experience. Loved the in-house hot springs bath.
The ryokan was well preserved and maintained an old Japanese traditional style house. Our room was a spacious tatami mat room with small and cute yards. Kotatsu (a table with heater) provided a nice touch.
The private bath was small but enough for two to three people.
It is a good ryokan to experience Japanese Inn, especially people from overseas. One side note, you do not expect to sleep on bed in this Ryokan.
Staff was kind and friendly.
Recommend!!
My partner and I had a great time at Dougoya. Our experience in such a traditional manner (tatami room, yukata, futon, onsen, simple breakfast) made our stay memorable. Thanks to the owner and his staff :)
We had a lovely time at this hotel. It has a bit of a hostel vibe with the shared toilets and showers, although it was all impeccably clean and we never had to wait for a turn.
The staff were lovely and very helpful. Breakfast was basic but filling and the coffee was really nice.
The ryokan is an easy tram ride out of the centre to Dōgo, where the famous onsen is. (I would greatly recommend going there too and having the tea and sweets after your bath! It felt very luxurious!)
Beautiful traditional inn located within the historic Dogo area. We had a large tatami room with futon which we were hoping for. Lovely breakfast provided. Didn't know that there was a small onsen (bath) at the inn until we got there, ran out of time to use it but we went to another fantastic one nearby.
Would definitely stay here again, thanks for your hospitality and beautiful building.
Very good-value if you don't mind sharing bathrooms - Dogo Onsen and Asuka-no-yu around the corner for bathing opportunity anyway and you can wear yukatas and slippers provided by Dougoya to wear around town. Our actual tatami room was very spacious and peaceful. Japanese breakfast extremely simple, hot rice, misoshiru, pickles, tea and coffee, served in a functional kitchen, but you are welcome to bring extra food to supplement. Staff were wonderfully kind and charming. We'd go back any time.
We absolutely loved this Ryokan! It is a beautiful building, of historical Japanese style. The rooms were comfortable and clean, the hospitality superb. It is located within walking distance of the Dogo Onsen and affiliated shopping area plus the local streetcar is nearby too. The hot waters of the Ryokan's onsen are from the same source as the Dogo Onsen so thoroughly enjoyed the comforts of bathing 'in house'. If you are looking for a traditional, non-Western style of accommodation, we definitely recommend this Ryokan. We hope to return for another visit too!
Rooms are large and clean. Staff is very friendly. Walking distance to the old bath house and bus and tram stations. Lots of restaurants and good shopping nearby.
A traditional Japanese ryokan with a strong human touch!
The owner was so kind to offer us a bigger and more conveniently located room on the first floor so we didn't need to move our heavy luggage up and down.
The room was overseeing the zen garden of the ryokan and it was lovely!
