Very quaint but sufficient. Unique with character. Pleasant dealings with all staff. Walkable area. The only improvement would be to get new window coverings as the blinds don’t work and the shades can’t close all the way due to covering the air conditioner.

The Hotel Royal is in an old building but it has been thoughtfully updated. We found it a very comfortable place to stay. The staff were very friendly and they did a great job of communicating with us and responding to any messages we sent to them. The location is excellent, with many terrific restaurants in walking-distance. It’s not too far from the Latin American Art Museum or the Long Beach Museum of Art, either. I do have to mention one very weird thing that happened during our stay. I was alone in the room in the mid-afternoon, sitting reading on my bed when I heard a noise and looked up to see that an extremely hardcore pornographic movie was playing on the TV set. We had never once turned the TV on since we checked in, and—no—I wasn’t trying to watch anything of that kind on any of my devices. I found later that the hotel doesn’t even have any kind of PPV streaming services on the TV, so my best guess is that some prankster had found a way to remotely stream this to the TV in our room. It’s hard to assess if there is any risk of this happening again to future guests in the hotel—probably whoever did it has moved on. I am reasonably confident that the staff flatly refused to believe that I hadn’t somehow been responsible for this myself (or that I was making it up for some obscure reason) so I doubt they’ve made any serious attempt to fix the problem.

To be honest, not great. There was no closet, no luggage rack to put a well traveled suitcase on which meant it had to be on the bed. Additionally, at the bottom of the bedframe there is an extension which we both banged into. After a long day of travel, we wanted a glass of wine but forgot our opener. I was surprised the front desk nor the kitchen had one. I had to go to Village Market to purchase one. Also, the bottom of the tub was very slippery and the power button on the air conditioner was filthy.

The staff were all very welcoming and helpful. We had loud people next to our room and it impacted our sleep. When we told the staff in the morning, they gave us another room. It was bigger then the room we booked. We really appreciated their responsiveness.

The hotel is old, but renovated and taking care of. They have bikes for guests. The kitchen is nice. The room is small, but has everything you need. Good value for the money. We would stay again.

I absolutely love this property. The only thing I would say is just put no elevator on the website just so people will know that they have to carry their luggage possibly up 3 flights of stairs. Otherwise amazing although one of the staff members did help me take it upstairs, Thanks again. She was happy to do it , however she can't do it for everyone.
