Welcome to the Misi-Ziibi River House. Nestled beside the beautiful Mississippi River, the enchanting sound of the rapids provides the perfect setting to relax and unwind. Whether you’re looking for a romantic or family getaway, the Misi-Ziibi is your ideal vacation destination, just 12 minutes from the historical villages of Carleton Place and Perth and less than 45 minutes west of Ottawa, Canada’s capital city.

Misi-Ziibi means great river in the Anishinaabe (Ojibwe or Algonquin) language.

About the Misi-Ziibi River House
The Misi-Ziibi River House was originally built in the 1950’s. Renovated over the years, it has become a quaint year-round cottage home. It is a comfortable two bedroom, one bathroom bungalow on a quarter acre river front lot.

RIVERSIDE
What makes this place magical is the river all year round! Whether you just want to relax, or play in the water, it is absolutely the best part of being here!

You will love letting the rapids massage your feet as you relax in chairs placed in the water. Or wade out to the old wall in the middle of the shallow rapids where we have discovered our own cold-water “spa”.

Remember to bring your water shoes. The water is shallow in the summer months, normally not deeper than 12 inches in most places. That makes the rapids accessible for water fun. Children (well supervised of course) will love playing in the shallow waters of the Misi-Ziibi’s own little bay where the water is calm. If they’re lucky, they may even catch a frog or two!

To the left of our rapids, kayakers, paddle boarders, and canoeists can portage to the calmer part of the river where they will be able to paddle to Ferguson Falls or to the right of the rapids, where they can portage to Mississippi Lake. Mother Nature has done an amazing job and there is plenty to see!

Don’t forget to pick up some firewood to bring with you. Around the riverside firepit, you can enjoy your favourite beverage, toast marshmallows, or make that s’more you’ve always wanted to try!

FRONT YARD
For the more sports oriented, the front yard is large and the perfect place for a game of catch, volleyball, badminton, frisbee, bocce. It’s also a great place to let your fur friend run. *Please note that the fence around the yard is not meant to keep your baby (canine or human) in the yard.*

FRONT PORCH AND ENTRY ROOM
The front porch is the morning sunny spot. It’s a cozy spot to sit on those cooler spring and fall days.
As you walk through the front door, two inviting rocking chairs seem to welcome you as if they were saying, “Have a seat. This is a great place to sit down and have a chat or some quiet time, or maybe read that book you’ve been wanting to read.”

KITCHEN
As you step into the kitchen, you may feel you stepped right into a country kitchen – where neighbours come for a coffee and sit around the kitchen table to chat. The morning sun shines through the large windows and makes it the perfect place for your morning coffee or tea. And if you have the best seat, you’ll be looking right down the hallway out the living room window at the beautiful Innisville Rapids!

The kitchen is well equipped with all the essentials for your vacation stay. As it is our country home, you should be able to find what you need to make all your meals. We have reserved one cupboard for our personal supplies. Hope you don’t mind if we ask that you not use what we’ve labelled as “NOT FOR GUEST USE”.

*There is no dishwasher at the Misi-Ziibi. You will love watching the song birds though in the spring and summer as you’re at the kitchen sink.*

BATHROOM
Bright with surround tub/shower; ceramic tile floor; hair dryer and make-up mirror; towels made in Canada provided. *Please remember to bring your personal toiletry items.*

MASTER BEDROOM and 2ND BEDROOM
New mattresses in both bedrooms. Large closets where you will find ample shelving for your personal items, a doggy blanket for those travelling with their dog, and a portable fan for those hot summer days. *Protect your delicate clothing or items by not placing them on the rustic wooden shelves where they could catch a stray splinter.*

DEDICATED WORKSPACE
Provided is a power bar to plug in your devices, a desk lamp with a USB outlet, and the amazing view of the river from the corner of your eye!

THINGS TO DO AND SEE
Busy or idle - whatever pleases you, both possibilities are perfect when you are at the Misi-Ziibi! There’s lots to keep your eyes and ears busy while you relax at the cottage, or you can find lots to do and see in the region. We’ve highlighted only a few below. Check out “Show host guidebook” in the “Where you’ll be section”. It’s filled with things to do and places to visit.

Looking for a place to eat within walking distance? Law and Orders, famous for their Rippo Burger challenge, is a 10 minute walk away.

Want to pick up a bottle of wine or that beer you forgot to stop and grab? Just across the highway from Law and Orders is the Variety Store and Ultramar gas station with a licensed LCBO outlet.

Looking for adventure? Marked Adventure Park is a 4 minute drive or 30 minute walk away. They have axe throwing, batting cages, laser tag, low impact paintball, paintball, obstacle course, ultimate campfire and water gun fights.

Wheeler’s Pancake House, Sugar Camp and Museums is a one stop pleasure 32 minutes away. Enjoy a delicious pancake breakfast, followed by a leisurely walk, cross country skiing or snowshoeing, on one of their five trails through the woods. There is so much to learn about the area with a visit to the museums on sight (no entrance fee but you can donate an amount you wish).

The perfect centre point to ride some of the best panoramic country roads of Ontario, it is a motorcyclist’s haven.

Let’s not forget about our snowmobilers! The Misi-Ziibi is situated in the Upper Canada Snowmobile Region with 3300 kilometres of groomed trails. Ski resorts, cross country skiing and snowshoeing trails can be found within an hour’s drive from the cottage.

Want to spend the day in Canada’s Capital? Downtown Ottawa is only 45 minutes away, famous for The Byward Market and the Rideau Canal, the world’s largest naturally frozen ice rink.

A night at the casino is something you like? You could spend the day visiting Ottawa and after hop across the Ottawa River to Gatineau, Quebec to enjoy an evening at Lac Leamy Casino. Gatineau is also host to the outstanding Museum of Civilization.

Other Details To Note:
The cottage uses a septic system so please be mindful of your water use or anything that you flush down the toilet.

*We often have fire bans, please be sure to check our municipal website to see if there is currently one active during your stay or ask us at time of booking.

QUIET TIMES
10pm to 7am Sunday to Thursday
11pm to 8am Friday and Saturday.
Please remember our neighbours are not on vacation. Even the sound of talking voices carries far on the riverfront.

SPEED LIMIT on our small dead-end road is 15km/h.

PETS
Want to bring your pet? Ask the host for details. Sorry, cats are not allowed due to allergies. *IMPORTANT: For the fur babies that have allergies, please be aware there are dog treats in the doggy bag on the floor of the entry room. Note that there is an additional charge of 35$ per pet. Any damage caused by your pet will be charged back to you out of your damage deposit.

MOTHER NATURE
Please understand that we are near open fields, wooded areas, and water. It is not uncommon to see a variety of insects and wildlife in and around the cottage (especially when there are lights to be attracted to). We are extremely lucky to have an incredible variety of Mother Nature’s most amazing creatures, desirable and less desirable. We’ve also noticed that each season brings its own special guests. During the summer for instance, you will see more mosquitoes, but also more songbirds. In the fall, luckily we say good bye to the mosquitoes and unfortunately also to the songbirds. Don’t forget to bring your insect repellent.

Guests are responsible for their own consumables after the initial reserve provided is used.

There is no one living on site; however, you can contact your host 24/7. If any problems arise, we will do our best to take action as soon as possible. Any refusal, obstruction, or lack of cooperation towards our efforts to fix a complaint or issue will be considered as confirmation that the complaint has been resolved thus forfeiting any related refund and or discount.

There is a security camera that films the entry way.

Lovely
This is a lovely place to come to for relaxation. Perfectly situated to explore the surrounding area. It is roomy, comfortable and excellently equipped with everything you need for your stay. Being pet friendly is an added bonus. I would suggest that the checkin email be sent out a couple of days ahead of the renter’s stay, especially when people are travelling a distance to get there. Stayed September 2024.

Idyllic Riverfront Cottage
The cottage was fantastic - we had everything we needed for a Thanksgiving weekend (except great weather, lol, but it wasn't too bad). Beds were comfy, the place was super clean and the view out the large front windows was spectacular. We were visited daily by a giant great blue heron - my totem animal! No complaints whatsoever. Would love to go back in the spring.
