My first Fairmont stay. Not to be repeated. Once a very nice hotel, but now totally outclassed by its peers. Staff were uninterested. The hotel was 5 star, the service more 2-3 star. Eg room cleaning, repeatedly requested 4 times, sockets not working, hairdryer and safe remained unfixed. Maintenance issues were also experienced by neighbouring rooms- we queued at the same time at front desk Loose dangerous paving slabs by the pool- “it’s fine, nothing wrong”, no action until someone is injured.
Clearly there is some of management psychodrama playing out with the staff who just don’t care and seem to have given up being interested. Food was quite basic so we only ate breakfast there. On the first day they tried to charge us for buffet breakfast despite being “free”. On the last day we were too early as leaving. So they gave us some miserable cornflakes with tiny cartons of long life milk. We had to actually chase 3 times for this the day before. I seriously wasn’t expecting such poor service in a 5 star hotel!!!
Ajman’s a relaxing place with decent local restaurants to experience Dubai food. To stay however, I would recommend the Ajman Saray - it’s a Marriott and properly 5 star. The restaurants were better, the service was frankly amazing, with staff really going the extra mile to make you feel welcomed rather than an inconvenient afterthought at the Fairmont. I haven’t registered for Accor loyalty points as the stay was terrible so I won’t be using Fairmont going forward.
