I enjoyed the historic hotel and you can’t beat the location. Not all the staff but some seemed indifferent or even bothered by having to engage with me. Hate to say it but that was a vibe I got from the entire town of Durango. Not rude but just no pleasantries. Either way a neat place to stay and the Diamond Belle was a fun experience. Staff there was very friendly.
Everything was fine except for the shower. The drain was clogged, and dirty water floated uo into shower floor. Manager said they would fix it and offered a discount. But she told me that I would have to get it from Expedia, because I booked it through a third party. We laughed, because we know Expedia is impossible to deal with. Recommend that people find things with Expedia, but book directly through a hotels own website, as a result of this bad experience.
Desk staff was very helpful in that she changed our room so we didn’t have to go up and down 6 stairs to our room. Rooms were quaint, but would have liked a microwave and refrigerator in the room.
Enjoyed going back in time staying in this historic hotel. Beautiful rooms and building. Easy to park. Good restaurant. In middle of town for excellent shopping and restaurants.
The elevator was tiny and stairs were steep and narrow. Breakfast was for tour groups only and it was not available for purchase. Staff were not friendly or helpful. The room and bathroom were small and the shower was tiny. The exhaust fan in the bathroom was very noisy.
We had a nice three night stay at the Strater. Be sure to ask about the hidden features in the lobby area. The staff members were friendly and helpful, especially Jericho at the front desk. The rooms do not have fridges but each floor has an ice machine. You can also sign up to use the hotel’s jacuzzi. The atmosphere and music make it a fun place to stay.
We would highly recommend the Strater Hotel!! It was clean, quiet, staff was nice and helpful, the rooms are beautiful and the bed was very comfortable! A must stay!
