Lovely greeting and free upgrade. Room was clean, spacious with nice free drinks in mini bar. Lovely local Ringtons tea, coffee, hot chocolate, biscuits. Fab decor and tasty breakfast in the most beautiful breakfast room ever.

The Hotel Indigo is full of character and charm. It’s very conveniently located for Ciy centre activities. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. One small improvement would be better lighting in the bedroom area, it’s quite dimly lit.

The room was very cold and only heated through a warm air duct which was incredibly noisy. We were woken up in the night with all the clanking so decided to turn it down and be cold rather than suffer the noise all night. After breakfast we returned to a room that had not been made up properly. Pillows still on chairs, my nightie scrumbled on the bed still strewn with the info guide. The water had not been replaced and the cups had not been cleaned. We had booked a meal at the restaurant which was not busy. After giving our order we waited 45/50 minutes for our steaks. When they arrived i noticed that the tomatoes advertised in the menu were not there. I queried the waiter who said he didn't think they were on the menu. When he returned he came with the tomatoes... The breakfast was standard fare, though my eggs benedict yolks were solid rather than runny. We normally go to the travelodge when we vist family in Durham but thought we would have a festive treat after a difficult year. It certainly was not the 4 star boutique hotel which we had expected.

I was impressed. The hotel has character and the position and facilities are impressive. Nice bar. Didn’t sample the restaurant but it looked busy. I will return on my next trip to Durham.

Lovely couple of nights
Staff were very helpful and polite, service was great in reception and also the restaurant. Food was very good, only one criticism of the breakfast, although being served hot (great) the sausage not being a proper butcher sausage was a let down. Not sure why when everything else was perfect that have to resort to cheap sausages. Seems finicky I know but come on make it right.

Never Again!
Looking at the building this was a break of great promise. Unfortunately we were let down on many occasions and will not be staying here again. First thing to know is parking. Although the hotel has a small car park, they charge £20 a night to park there. The alternative is on street parking - right outside - at a 1/3 of the price. If you download the phone app you can top up remotely. Check in was OK after we'd found the reception and we attempted to book the restaurant having travelled all day. The restaurant was full that night and the following night by large parties, but we managed to get in on night 3. The room was quite small and (first bugbear) only one comfy chair, plus the TV faced the bed with no swivel, so you're lying on the bed if you want to watch any TV. Bathroom, well appointed, shower only - -only 2 rooms out of 85 have baths apparently. Room temperature was another sticking point. The aircon control was locked - no-one ever told us why, so if we were too hot or cold, we had to ring reception to ask them to change it for us - pathetic. After we'd eaten on the 3rd night, the bill was wrong, I queried this and why we couldn't charge items to the room? Finally we were told that if you book via a 3rd party (Hotels.com), you can't charge to the room. I suggested this was ridiculous whereupon the receptionist snatched the bill out of my hand, took off the service charge (!!) and gave it me back. Fine by me! Overall, a poor performance, not to be repeated

Amazing staff.
Customer service and restaurant/ breakfast service were amazing. They really look after you well at this hotel. Our room was lovely but the windows were high so you couldn’t see out of them. We usually stay at another hotel in Durham when visiting our daughter at uni and always enjoy the stunning views. It’s a shame we couldn’t see out of the windows, otherwise, this would be our new ‘go to’ hotel in Durham.
