The "Engineer's House" comes from the rehabilitation of the home of the engineer-head of mines at Las Herrerías, located at one end of the row of houses in Puerto de la Laja. The spectacular mineral pier and the village on the banks of the Guadiana River have been declared a Site of Cultural Interest by the Junta de Andalucía.
