Book a hotel near Ellerslie Racecourse, Remuera

"Decent location, well appointed room but a little tired, amazing breakfast buffet! Top 10 in our 70 countries thus far. Room, lounge, chandlier restaurant all could have been a bit cleaner (especially compared to the rest of NZ hotels and restaurants which are typically spotless!). We arrived 15 min before 3pm and couldn't check into our room, so they took our bags and we had lunch. We checked in with them after eating to say we were going for a walk, NO PROBLEM they said, we'll certainly take your bags to your room, enjoy. 3 hours later we come back to no bags on the room. We went back downstairs to check, they can't find them?! Five minutes of searching they do, offering to call someone to take them up, no way! The place was packed with a wedding or something going on, no doubt it would be another hour if we did that. After 24 hours in transit just to get to NZ we needed fresh clothes! They dropped the ball there."

"They provided a breakfast that was excellent. Scrambled egg and bacon were great. The coffee machine was amazing although I made a bit of a mess until I figured it out. The one bad thing is that it has a few steps between the rooms as the building terraces down a gradual slope. If you are older with heavy bags I can imagine it would be a struggle. The staff helped us carry our bags up. The rooms were big and comfortable although modest and a little worn. Nothing fancy but great value. The staff were really nice."
