We stayed at Furneaux Lodge while walking the Queen Charlotte Track in February, 2024. After hiking the ~10 miles on the first day through a symphony of cicadas and outstanding views, feeling hot and tired, we walked into the magical oasis that is Furneaux Lodge.
The setting is absolutely dreamy with a large grassy yard leading down to a pretty beach. It feels tranquil and elegant. We'd splurged on a suite and were astounded by how beautiful it was. The suites are two to a building and set off on one side of the property. Ours was huge with a large living area, a separate bedroom and a big bathroom with a large shower with fluffy towels. The decor was beautiful and there was even AC (!) which meant that we were able to sleep well that night.
One small but appreciated touch was the little package of cookies in the room to go with morning tea/coffee and also instant decaf coffee (it was the only place with decaf in the room in our month of travel in NZ).
After a day of hiking, it felt great to spend some time in the hot tub and then have a drink on the main building's pretty verandah. The bartender was very sweet and let us taste several beers and ciders before deciding on one.
The one downside to Furneaux, though, is that there are no other dining options nearby and their restaurant is NOT vegetarian-friendly. There was only one vegetarian entree and no vegan ones. It's also expensive but that's to be expected given the remote location and lack of other options.
Perfect accommodation, relaxing, super comfortable bed & superb view! Friendly, welcoming staff & great meals. Highly recommend stay a this fabulous lodge!!
This is my second time visiting Furneaux Lodge and will be back again. The location is stunning, the staff are very pleasant & helpful, it's such a beautiful place to explore or relax and well worth a stay when doing the Queen Charlotte track. Highly recommend & we will be back.
We had a spacious suite with awesome views of the sounds. It was warm, comfortable and private. Restaurant had great food and all staff were friendly and helpful

We were a group of 17 ranging from 20 years old to 90.
Furneaux team were AMAZING!
They were friendly, nothing was too hard and they were just a great bunch of people.
Accommodation was fantastic... views were beautiful.
Disability room was so well set up and accessible
The Queen Charlotte track is just behind the lodge and some great short or long walks.
Ate far too much food as it was all so good !. Restaurant was well set up to deal with any dietary requirements due to allergies.. again, nothing was too hard
We are all definately going to visit again!

Liked: Staff & service, amenities
Overall we really enjoyed our stay here however were a bit disappointed as we were expecting a water view, only to have no view, just an untidy deck with overgrown weeds. However our room was really nice inside, great food and friendly staff we were grateful to be able to check in early and enjoyed the use of the kayaks.
My family of 4 loved staying at Furneaux Lodge. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The fact that the hotel is positioned right beside the Queen Charlotte Track made our stay even better. A relaxing and overall fantastic stay at this hotel.
4 choices on the dinner menu - all expensive and staff not willing to even cook a bowl of fries. Wi-fi didn’t work - staff eventually told us it hadn’t worked in a while. Not really a suitable destinationfor budget travellers.

Room for Improvement
First the wrong room, the patio with orange peels and cigarette butts and then no packed lunches the next morning. Either there is a problem with management or we just had back luck. The staff were very apologetic and offered to fix the problems... The evening meal and service was very good.
