Dotted with beach huts and ringed with wildlife-rich dunes and grassland, the horseshoe-shaped Coldingham Bay is one of the most picturesque beaches in southern Scotland. Only a smattering of homes pepper the grassy slopes above the kilometre-long white sand beach, amongst them the pair of strikingly contemporary Bay Villas.

With sweeping views over the bay and ocean beyond it, the Villas are set back far enough from the water’s edge to allow you to take in the dramatic coastline while being near enough to go for an early morning swim and stroll on the sand.

There can be few cooler places to call home after a surf than 6 The Bay, a spacious first floor apartment in the Bay Villas that combines sea views with laidback Scandi interiors. Drop your beach togs in the utility room, wash off the sand in one of the apartment’s two slick monochrome bathrooms, rustle up a snack in the super high-spec kitchen, throw open the full-height glass sliding doors to the sheltered, sunlit balcony and kick back on a deck chair soaking up the sea views.

It’s a beachy way of life you’ll soon grow accustomed to while staying at 6 The Bay, which brings the sea indoors with its two nautical-inspired bedrooms, each decorated with specially commissioned photography of Coldingham Bay, and a relaxed chic open-plan living space. The epitome of modern living, the sea view kitchen and dining area combines a streamlined high-gloss kitchen with a chunky timber dining table and benches, with an additional dining table on the balcony for al fresco meals. Simple blonde wooden furniture, potted plants, botanical prints and a tan leather chaise sofa complete the laidback vibe of this stylish living space.

While you’re not soaking up the views of Coldingham Bay from the balcony, you can head down to the sand itself to enjoy excellent surfing, diving and kayaking - professional instruction in all three pursuits is available through the nearby St. Vedas Surf Shop. There are also plenty of walking routes in the local vicinity, including a scenic coastal walk that takes in the pretty fishing village of St. Abbs, the perfect spot for a tasty seafood chowder or crab baguette. Scottish coastal break
6 the bay was a little bit of luxury overlooking the sea, all on one level with its own balcony. It was lovely to come back from coastal walks right on the doorstep into the open plan apartment with underfloor heating which our dogs loved. Everything was provided inc outside hose to wash down sandy paws.
