Wooded + Rustic Hideaway Minutes From River, Natl/State Parks, Hiking & Wineries

At the Shenandoah South Fork Hideaway, the choice is yours: Do you want to drive 5 minutes to hike the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests? Fifteen minutes to canoe down the Shenandoah River, or to Front Royal and Skyline Drive? Twenty minutes to the local wineries and meaderies, or to the Shenandoah State Park?

Or — maybe — would you rather just enjoy your own private hideaway, tucked at the bottom of the mountains and nestled within the untamed forest?

Built on an old wagon trail, this rustic 3-bedroom, 2-bath cabin will greet you with stunning views of the mountains (and river, once the leaves fall) that you can enjoy from your 3rd-floor loft bedroom with giant picture windows, or your expansive 2nd-floor deck made for entertaining. Spot the deer that live nearby as they stroll through the meadow on your property, or turn your eyes skyward toward hawks during the day and the most incredible views of the stars at night.

Just south of Front Royal and 90 minutes from Washington DC, it's the ultimate accessible spot that feels like you're a million miles away. The hideaway sits on nearly 3 wooded acres off a gravel road, and visitors have said it feels like you've traveled back in time once you get there.

This property does NOT have river access, but there are two public river landings within a 10 minute drive.

It's also likely you'll see other wildlife like deer, birds — and maybe even the occasional bear! Please leave them be and enjoy from a distance.

Please note that we do not have a washer or dryer. Some cell phone providers do not have reliable service at the property (Verizon).

There is a pet fee of $50 that you will pay upon booking. We limit pets to 3 per visit, and kindly request you don’t let your furry friends on the furniture.

Relaxing Stay in Front Royal, VA
My wife and I decided last minute to get out of D.C. for a long weekend to celebrate our 4 year anniversary. We found this gem in the woods and booked it for the weekend. The property was beautiful and the home was exactly what we wanted. In addition, the hosts were polite and professional. I recommend this VRBO property to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway in the mountains of Virginia. We will book again soon!

Just Right
I stayed here for a week alone due to construction in my home. It gave me a break from the busy city of Washington DC and my busy job. I was able to work virtually as needed and absolutely relax and do a lot of nothing. The hosts are very responsive; due to storms and heat, sometimes the power flipped on and off. They immediately addressed any issues. The house was very inviting and very peaceful. I spent many a night on the deck, listening to all the critters and the other noises outside. It is a very short drive to the Skyline Drive and seemed to be located on top of its own hill. I will absolutely be back and could have stayed longer. This time I just had my kitty cat with me due to construction of my home, but my dog, Bruce, was away at training. I will return with both of them, as Bruce missed out. I highly recommend this place if you need to hide away, it’s only about an hour or so from the city and has a great view. Verizon cell service gives you 1 bar but you will survive. The WiFi works and they figured it out when the power flipped. There is a great kitchen and everything you need. I spent the week blasting music on the big blue tooth speaker while cooking and then quietly taking in the peace. I highly recommend this little spot any time of year.

Great Property. Great Cabin. Great Owners.
A nice modern cabin perched on the side of a beautifully landscaped hill across the fields from the Shenandoah River. Every consideration has been taken to insure a happy complacent stay. Sean & Nikki are available if needed. The property is quiet and peaceful. The cabin has plenty of space on three separate levels. They are pet friendly. I’m really glad my girls and I got to stay here. I highly recommend this property to anyone looking to get away from it all and unwind. Front Royal Cabin awaits you and all the memories that you’d care to make!

Excellent stay!
We went on a hiking trip as a small group of friends (6) and truly enjoyed our stay! The location was beautiful and the perfect distance from town for us, and we loved the property and house. The hosts were helpful from the moment we booked and ensured we had a great experience. We also brought our 2 cats and they did great in the house - they loved looking out the windows! We would certainly stay here again!

Nice, spacious place
We enjoyed ourselves at this VRBO. Very pretty area, and despite the wildfires we could still do everything we wanted to. Four bedrooms and two full baths made it easy for the three of us to stay there. Our only issue was with the TV, directions at the house of how to access the TV were old and we didn't have access to local channels, or channels we could watch the March Madness games on. Didn't bother me, but did bother my husband. We did have to reach out to the owners a couple times and they were pretty quick to respond through VRBO. Thanks for sharing your cottage with us!

Bird doggin' weekend
The house and property were excellent. Very clean and plenty of space for 5 adults (one couple, 3 singles). Only one TV in the 4th bedroom which was surprising for a house that size. No washer and dryer which would have been very convienent for the proximity it was to town. If your looking to get away in a wooded quiet location this property is for you. Internet was great, Verizon cell service not so much (none). The decks were very nice for checking out the scenery.

A wonderful retreat tucked in the mountains The three story home was perfect for our family of five. Well stocked with amenities and comfortable Beds. Deck overlooking countryside with a smaller Perch on the thrid floor. Communication with the host was perfect. When we come to Virginia we would pick this cottage again. Highly recommended The white family

Bugs everywhere
The couch smelled awful, we had to buy febreeze just to be able to sit on it. The place was not cleaned enough to meet the expensive cleaning fee with cigarettes littering the outside and dumped into the firepit which i had to clean out myself to be able to use it. The third floor balcony has no handle on the third floor which they said we were not allowed to use (which was not something we knew prior to arriving). There was feces on the porch of the second floor balcony, most likely from someones pet. They also neglected to disclose that they have a stink bug problem. We had to read it in their welcome book that we would be infested with stink bugs the entire trip. I would regularly find at least 20 stink bugs in the top floor bedroom and on two occasions on our 4 day trip had found stink bugs crawling in my bed sheets and on my person. For the space you get, it would have been fine if not for these dealbreaking issues.

Great mountain getaway!
Feels like you are a million miles from it all, but really such a convenient home base for all the fun the area has to offer. Home was clean and spacious. We enjoyed the views from the top floor bedroom. Great wifi makes up for not having cell service, phone calls and texts were no problem. Highly recommend Spelunkers and Apple House in Front Royal!

Beautiful setting that perfectly balances the seclusion of the mountains with easy access to everything recreational. Close to wineries, breweries, hiking, and Skyline Drive. After a day of enjoying the area, the house is perfect to fire up the grill, make a nice dinner, and relax by the fire pit. The views from the loft deck are a perfect accompaniment to a morning coffee and an evening glass of wine. The owners were very communicative and offered great local suggestions.

Nice secluded getaway
If you are looking for a home to stay in that is secluded but also has some proximity to a population center then this is the right place for you. The home is situated on a private lot with no neighbors in sight. Except for maybe some goats. You have close proximity to many natural attractions, and outdoor companies. Be sure to try some of Front Royals dining options, we went to Apple House & Blue Wing Frog. Definitely grab a pack of the apple donuts. The hosts are very responsive and go above & beyond to make sure your stay is comfortable. Stock up on food at the local grocery store and let this be your getaway in the mountains.

Wonderful
Thanks to Nikki and Sean for sharing their lovely home with us. We had a wonderful time at their beautiful property. The views from the loft were wonderful. We enjoyed the national parks nearby and the indoor games on rainy days. It was a special treat to see deer, turkey and rabbits from the home. The new oven worked great. We didn't realize that the property didn't have a washer dryer, I think that would have been useful for folks staying for several days and for families with little kids.
