Waterfront home on Lake Michigan overlooking multiple islands!

Bring family and friends to this great historic waterfront home at the tip of the Garden Peninsula with breathtaking views. Activities include fishing, biking, boating, kayaking, ATV riding and many more right out your front door. There are four public boating access sites nearby. Many state and national parks within driving distance. The home has been recently semi-updated but much of the original historic features remain. Large attached summer garage for outdoor cooking and entertaining.

The Saint Martin House has roughly 1750 ft.² of living space including an additional 850 ft.² of garage space. There is a washer and dryer inside and also in the garage. Garage also has separate range for cooking and the sink and cabinets. The property has 280 feet of private beautiful grass lake Michigan frontage. Perfect location for just hanging out or bring your boat and go after some bass, perch, walleye, pike or king salmon. Take your ATV or mountain bike for a cruise on one of the many local trails and there is also a public golf course just down the road. The Garden Peninsula is also a wonderful place to enjoy fall tours and festivities/events at the State Parks. This property offers a very large grass yard and beachfront that is perfect for summer games and bonfires. Multiple islands to boat or kayak around. There are four bedrooms total, three upstairs and one downstairs, two sleeper sofa beds with 1 full bath downstairs and a 3/4 bath in the garage area. This property can sleep 12 to 14 people comfortably, with additional air mattresses and cots available. It has a full kitchen, dining room and living room. The Village of Fairport is a super unique and beautiful place to enjoy.

Here is a little bit of history, this house was built on Saint Martin island, and moved to its current location in Fairport from the island during the winter of 1883 or 84 using horse drawn skids across the ice of Lake Michigan. This is a distance of approximately 9 miles. The current is strong and it rarely freezes in this channel between big data knock and the open waters of Lake Michigan. But during the mid-1800s, most of the world experience various odd weather phenomenon because of the volcanic eruption of Krakatoa in Indonesia. Those winter’s were very hard. Winter started early and stayed late. This explains why the ice between Saint Martin island and the Garden Peninsula with solid enough to support house moving. This weather information is detailed in Carl Bohnak’s, former WLUCTV6 chief meteorologist, book “So Cold a Sky”. This information was also confirmed by lifelong residence in Fairport, and the historic books left in the house.

Family get away
Thank you for having the perfect home for our family of 8 adults age ranging from 87 to 22. We all enjoyed our morning coffee looking at the open water. We enjoyed the property with swimming, kayaking or playing lawn games as we waited for the beautiful sun sets. The garage was perfect for relaxing and enjoying the July weather not exceed 75 degrees. Our family also enjoyed Fayette State park for its beautiful quiet beach and Historic ghost town. We also enjoyed the local restaurant “the Dock grill “ and “Sherry’s Port “for fresh White Fish.

Cozy older home getaway
This was our second time staying at this property and we had a wonderful time. We spent the majority of our time in the garage or on the beach. The home is older but worked well for us! We would definitely stay here again!

Not truly pet friendly and the property is accross the road from the lake
We expected water front property with grass that transitioned into a sandy beach. The house is across the road from the lake and the sand ends before the water; there are slippery rocks as you wade into the water. None of the pictures or description made this fact clear. We paid for pets and the property is listed as pet friendly, however, two hours after our arrival, the owners dropped off a manual and in the manual it states that pets are to be confined to the garage. That is not pet friendly. The beds are not comfortable and if you are taller than 5'2" you will be too tall for the double beds. We still enjoyed our time in Garden and there is a place to buy fresh fish right down the road. If you're just looking for a place to crash because you plan to fish all day, this place may be a good fit for you.

Family vacation
Lovely place to stay. The garage space was great to hang out in. We spent most of our time there! Sunsets were fun to watch down at the marina right down the street! Wish it was more of a sandy waterfront but we made it work but still great to be right on the water. Overall great stay and the host was great to work with.

Perfect spot for us with everything we needed
The St. Martin house was more than we could’ve imagined. So many details thought of- especially extras for the kiddos. We always camp at Fayette, but since our son’s leukemia diagnosis, wished for a few more creature comforts. We love the history of the area and are so grateful to have had the opportunity to stay in this house. We’ll take the boat traffic over cars any day, and the proximity to everything we love in the peninsula which might not be exciting to others but it was just the break we needed. Can’t wait to come back.

Nice getaway spot
This nice older home worked great for our trip to the UP. We spent the majority of our time in the garage, so I recommend moving the bigger living room tv to the garage. Overall it was a great stay!

We loved it!
This was one of the coolest places I’ve ever stayed. There were 8 people in our group and the house could not have been more accommodating. The house was clean and neat. With 2 baths, 2 kitchens and 2 laundry rooms this made the stay a lot more comfortable for 2 families. It felt very much like home. The house was stocked with everything we needed to get comfortable. The house had 3 kayaks, fire pit at the house and on the beach. There’s life jackets, yard games, board games, grill. The kitchen had everything we needed to prepare meals. The sunset and the night stars were more beautiful then I have ever seen before. It’s very quiet and dark at night. The closest gas station was about 30min away. Fayette state park is a short drive away and was a great place to visit. All in all we would love to go back to this place every summer!
