A Fantastic Holiday
Our recent stay at La Posada Romana was fabulous. Nestled into the hillside under Gaucin, with breathtaking views of mountains, the Mediterranean Sea and even North Africa, this villa exceeded our expectations and allows for the perfect relax and escape. Other reviews have mentioned: smell of mould - no evidence of this on our trip old towels - not a concern for us, additional pool towels were also there. The villa and grounds are stunning. Inside - large living spaces, tasteful décor and comfortable furnishings - fully equipped kitchen, allowing us to prepare anything we wanted to (the first time we have had everything needed for large group catering) - spacious bedrooms, en-suite bathrooms, and terraces We spent every evening after dinner on the main terrace watching the sunset followed by moon and stars. The comfy seats, outside fans and bbq is great too. The brand new outdoor pool is gorgeous - an absolute hit for our group and couple of frogs too! Sun loungers with another covered terrace for shade allowed us a couple of afternoons of extreme leisure. The villa's location was ideal for exploring the surrounding region. Gaucin (with great restaurants - La Fructuosa was our favourite) is walkable, albeit steep, but otherwise a car is essential for getting about (the approach roads to the villa are rough country roads so an SUV is highly recommended). Miren and Diego were always available to answer any questions and were lovely to us. Our whole group loved it!!!

Gaucin Country Villa
The location of the property was beautiful as was the layout of the house. Miren was lovely, easily accessible, helpful and friendly. The views from the house were simply gorgeous!!! Everyone had plenty of room and privacy. Most of the beds were comfortable and clean. The room with the bunk beds, however, had a very strong smell of mold and I don't think it would be healthy for someone to sleep in it. The mold smell was pervasive in the entire villa - but with windows and doors open it dissipated. While the furniture was comfortable it was quite dirty - simply due to its wear and tear over the years. The kitchen was big and well stocked but all the pots and pans and small appliances needed to be scrubbed clean and some replaced (the automatic drip coffee maker never worked properly). The bath towels were also quite old. New plusher towels would be a nice addition. While all 11 of us loved the villa and would stay there again, we felt it was in need of some updates and a deep cleaning.

A wonderful dream come true
We recently completed a 1 month stay at La Posada Romana (month of September 2023) as part of a 4 ½ month retirement celebration trip in Europe and Spain. I have wanted to spend an extended visit in Andalucia for many years and spent over 2 years searching the best place to stay in the Ronda Sierra once I decided this was the area I wanted to stay in. I tried to read and research all I could to gain an understanding for the area and which place to rent. For this reason I will spend time on this review in hopes that it might help others. In my search for places to rent I kept coming back to thinking Posada Romana was the right place for us even though originally I was just hunting for a place for my husband and myself. I am so happy I made the choice. La Posada Romana was perfect for our visit in this area although a little different than what I originally envisions our month to be. We were just the 2 of us for about 2/3 of the month and then had friends and family visiting for the last part of our visit. I originally imagined going into Gaucin everyday and becoming part of the town life when not going on day side trips. In the end, the house and location were so beautiful and tranquil that I really had limited desire to leave the property. I loved spending time starting at morning coffee till midnight dinners on the terrazzo with views constantly changing in the light and really always staying cool (there are ceiling fans) in September all day. As the month went on, evenings

Firstly, the pictures of the property on VRBO do the house no justice. This property is absolutely stunning! The decor is stylish, sophisticated and homely. The house is really well equipped with everything that you need for a large group. We spent a week here (8 adults and 8 teenagers). A couple of reviews mentioned a daunting drive through the village of Gaucin to the property - we found this drive exciting, beautiful and challenging which resulted in a remote destination which is perfect if you are looking for somewhere quiet to stay. Miren is the perfect host, she reached out to us daily to ensure all was in order and provided a huge amount of information about the area. She also made contact prior to our stay requesting passport copies to ensure a smooth check in. The views from the property are to die for. We hiked in the mornings, relaxed by the pool in the afternoon (or did day trips) and braai'd in the evenings taking in the lovely views. The bedrooms are beautiful and there are so many eating areas, chill our zones. I highly recommend this property, a miilion times better than we were expecting. Miren is the best host i have encountered throughout my travels - so many lovely memories made within our stay. Craig

A special place in a very special location
There is so much to love about La Posada Romana. We spent 5 weeks there from mid-Sept to mid-Oct with many different groups of friends and family and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The view from the villa is spectacular, the communal spaces are ideal for large groups to gather and the nearby white hill town of Gaucin is wonderful--a decent market, a number of very good restaurants, even a terrific wine and gourmet shop. This is a place for peace and quiet, for hiking (the town is an ONEROUS 35 minute hike from the villa), for enjoying people you love. It's also very well situated as a central base for visiting other historic sites in the Andalusia region, e.g., Cadiz, Seville, Granada, Cordoba (all best via an overnight trip) and Ronda. The owner, Miren, is incredibly responsive and easy to work with. The caretaker, Diego, and his wife, Ester (who can be hired to prepare delicious meals for your group--she brings them all done, family style) are true gems. The constructive feedback we gave to Miren is that the place could use a deep cleaning (especially the rugs/mats in the bedrooms and the upholstery) and despite the many prior deserved negative reviews about the towels, they had not been upgraded. And, this home is not a place for people who have difficulty with stairs. Also, make sure you get specific driving instructions from Miren the first time you visit as you approach Gaucin (our GPS didn't work). Overall, we had a fantastic experience that we'll never forget.

Incredible home and location for a Family Vacation
We spend our family vacation with 20 people at this is a beautiful House August 2022. We were looking for a spacious home with enough bedrooms and bathrooms and we found it in this beautiful Mansion. The house was as advertised in VRBO. The first reaction upon coming to the house was Wow...The beautiful entrance, staircase, spacious living room, kitchen and beautiful view from the large terrace were unbelievable and made this the perfect home for our vacation. Although we had a large group, we never felt cramped. There was enough space and sitting areas to relax and enjoy every moment. The large living room, dining room and large terrace provided more than enough room for relaxing and enjoying meals with the family. The Gas grill on the terrace was a wonderful feature that we used almost every night. The indoor pool is large and was perfect to keep the kids and adults happy. Although the pool is indoor there is a double door to an outside terrace that made you feel you were also enjoying the outdoors. The kitchen is spacious with a large fridge/freezer, 2nd fridge, cooking range, oven and microwave that was more than enough for our group. The decorations throughout the house are rich and tasteful. Bedrooms were spacious and had enough closet space. Bathrooms are large and modern. We worked with Miren for several months before making our decision and she was very responsive and helpful...I'm so glad we decided for her home. Miren is a very nice and helpful Host. She helped us arranged a winery tour with lunch for the whole group including transportation and everything was top..very memorable outing for our family. Diego the caretaker was very friendly, was often at the property and was very helpful when we needed something. This home is nested on the mountain just below Gaucin, as such, to get to the home one has to navigate through secondary roads that are sometimes gravel and sometimes cement. This secondary road starts off A-377 as one goes north before reaching Gaucin. From the start of the road, it’s only a 6-minute ride to the house. Initially one is impressed by the backroad aspects but relax, it’s all worth it when you get to the house. From this house we did daily trips to Gibraltar, Malaga, Sevilla, Cadiz, Ronda (we love Ronda), Estepona and Granada on two Mercedes Vito vans. We highly recommend this home to anyone looking for unique, large, luxurious, and memorable home. The views and the sky are unique from this house.

Beautiful location with a house to match
We had a fabulous stay at La Posada Romana. The property is very spacious and fitted out to a high standard and the views are incredible. Sometimes you look at the pictures and hope for the best but prepare for a disappointment. Not so with this property, it's every bit as good as the pictures show it to be. We would definitely consider booking it again.

A spacious villa brilliant for families with older children. A bright and airy villa with a well thought out layout with large windows with great views in every bedroom. There is lots of room for the children to run around and explore outside. The only thing lacking is an outdoor pool for the summer months.

Two weeks at Posada Romana
We enjoyed our stay and the property has a wonderful location with an amazing view. The garden and pool are lovely. Bedrooms and bathrooms of a high standard. Towels need to be replaced more often as were not soft and pool ones were tatty and we were surprised we did not get clean ones after week one. Although the kitchen is well appointed there were a number of issues. We were asked to conserve water but there was no sink plug. A number of the appliances either didn’t work, had bits missing or were broken. The hand mixer started as soon as plugged in and smelled terrible suggesting it was dangerous. There were lots of water glasses but only 6 wine and cava glasses. We bought more. The fridges were good. Lovely to have so much ice. Furnishings in living area nice. A pity Ikea bedspreads were put over indoor and outdoor sofas as these were constantly rumpled and coming off.

Beautiful spot, a bit tough to access
The house and grounds are beautiful. The view is stupendous. The terrace is awesome. The house is clean and very comfortable. The house easily accommodated the 11 of us. There are only two issues: 1) the access roads to the house are in very rough shape so you need a bit of nerve, good tires and,in several spots, constant acceleration to get to the town or the main road. (The owner is working on getting the road improved.) You can walk up to town, but that takes about 1 hour. So, it is not easy to get back and forth from the house; 2) the 3 bedrooms on the top floor (other than the master bedroom) do not have a bathroom, so users of those bedrooms either have to use the master bathroom or go elsewhere. (changing one f those 3 bedrooms to a bathroom would help.) And, on the pool level, the bedroom (there are 3 bedrooms on the pool level) closest to the room with the house mechanicals can be a bit noisy in case you are a light sleeper. But overall, given the superb condition and beauty of the house and grounds, the overall comfort of the house, the views from the house and the wonderful assistance of the house owner (Miren) and Diego, the gardener/handyman, whenever we had any questions, we highly recommend the house.

Fantastic Family Gathering
Our family of 8 adults had a fantastic week at beautiful Posada Romana. The well equipped house is huge, with dining & seating areas large enough for all of us to gather (with room to spare) and also sufficient space for everyone to find their own quiet peaceful spot if required. The design of the house is stunning and makes the most of the magnificent views, which can be appreciated from many of the rooms & various terraces. The pool and table tennis equipment were a big hit with everyone and used everyday. Communication with Miren was excellent and locating the house not a problem. Miren arranged for us to meet Diego (the Gardener) at the petrol station in Gaucin and he guided us down to the house. Whilst the track was daunting at first, we soon got used to it and made the journey to and from Gaucin several times during the week.

Stunning house ideal for family stays
We stayed here in July and everyone enjoyed this well managed large house. The owner is great at emails. The journey does present some challenge but we left the hassle of the final approach to the taxis. We were delighted not to worry about driving but used Diego, the Handyman/Gardener to ferry us all upto Gaucin when further provisions were needed or to enjoy the many restaurants and bars. Perhaps younger, fitter folk could walk there but its quite a stretch! The location is, in every other way, absolutely perfect. Its private, quiet apart from occasional tinkling of goat bells somewhere and with superb long distant views. It really is enchanting. The house is well managed and generally well equipped with baby and children's gear. The main drawing room/lounge is magnificent and looks at least as beautiful as you see in the pictures. Its the real deal and fabulous. There are 3 terraces for possible eating (& sun-bathing) tho the downstairs terrace (with vined gazebo) is a trek from the kitchen. This is large, modern and right next to the dining room. Good hob, ovens, fridge space etc. Dishwasher floods if you open to pop in a forgotten spoon but effective otherwise. There are 3 possible dining options although the terrace dining is for smaller numbers. Esther, Diego's wife, is available if required to cook for you and we enjoyed her food very much indeed - not easy to please a mix of carnivores, vegetarians and vegans but all were happy! Her food arrived ready to eat and is wholesome, tasty and highly recommended. Sleeping accommodation is on 3 levels and the bedrooms were clean and comfortable. Downstairs they are next to but separate from the pool area which worked well for us with slightly older children (6, 10, 2 x 11 & 13 yrs). Its easily closed off for safety. However, adjacent to the Master bedroom on top level are 3 other double bedrooms (one with bunks, functioning as TV/Wii playroom). There are no bathrooms for these rooms so sleepers have to either use the master bathroom or go down big stairs to the visitors loo-not ideal. The indoor pool is lovely-narrow, long and well maintained. Table tennis, games & a relaxation area is nearby, great for non-sunworshippers. Fab the children didn't need sun cream for the majority of their days here! There's the beginning of a sauna/steam room but incomplete. The garden is lovely & chickens (fresh eggs!) are nearby.. Highly recommended for a relaxing family group or for some great fun with friend

Fabulous Villa
We were a family of 8 adults with 8 children, the youngest being 11 months. The villa provided the facilities we required to make a fantastic holiday plus the most breath taking views of the mountains. Miren met us on arrival in the village and took us to the villa via the rather rough track but when we saw the villa it made it all worthwhile. The first impression of the villa is unbelief and when you step inside it is unbelievable. The space is fantastic and the décor is wonderful . Every room had aircon which was welcomed in the 34degree heat. Miren took us to the village and showed us where the supermarket was and also the ATM etc. After she returned home she sent us a list of restaurants to visit plus the best beaches too. her hospitality was second to none. Ester the cook made us two wonderful tasty meals which we thoroughly enjoyed. We recommend her to all holiday makers at the villa. Being a large family the size of the villa meant we were not under each others feet. The pool was on the small side but the children were in it every day and thoroughly enjoyed it. Any problems we had were sorted promptly by Deigo. At the end of our stay everyone was sad to leave We would love to return some day..

A Dream Vacation
We stayed at La Romana Posada for almost 2 weeks and loved every minute of it! We were a group of 17 people - adults and kids. The house is magnificent and the views are breathtaking. We couldn't get enough of it! The indoor pool is a treat, especially during colder weather. Just make sure to request to heat it up prior to your arrival. Miren, the property owner, was fantastic from the beginning - helped me get things organized prior to our arrival, answered all my endless questions and once we were at the house, immediately helped with anything we requested/needed. Diego, the house manager on site was fantastic and we fell in love with Ester, who cooked and cleaned for our big group. Such kind and warm people! Ester's cooking is to die for - paella; oxtail; lamb; veal stew. I'm still dreaming of her flan dessert. As for the "off-road" leading to the house - it's absolutely fine. Mostly paved and partly gravel and once you've done it once and know what to expect, not difficult or scary at all. We even drove several times in the dark. Guacin is a cute' quiet little white village to lovely to walk around in.

A fabulous house with staggering views but the approach roads are daunting
Our family group of 8 adults and 5 kids (aged 7-13) was easily accommodated in Posada Romana. Both sleeping and relaxing space - inside and out- is plentiful, whether individuals or groups want some space to themselves or to congregate. Unlike some large holiday homes, furnishings are ample and of high quality. The same goes for all the kitchen equipment and supplies: plenty of them for 13 of us. The "tech" was irritatingly unreliable at times, with intermittent wi-fi / internet access and hot water not being available for a day because of network problems. The a/c is similarly affected. The pool / games room is great, but make sure you arrange to get the pool heated to a comfortable temperature. The owner does not hide the fact that you must negotiate a dirt track to get to the house, but it is challenging. We had 6 very experienced drivers and three substantial mpvs/ cars. Still everyone had a certain amount of dread each time we left or came back to the house. We also made sure we never attempted it in the dark, so our evenings were always spent in the house. Just as well that it was so pleasant to be in. Gaucin itself is pretty and very well kept, but much quieter than we expected. We had lunch there one day. The castle is truly a must-see; an amazing and evocative slice of history perched impossibly high among soaring eagles and unbelievable views of the hills and valley. We spent a great day in Ronda, which just has to be seen and a day on the beach in Estepona ( do also walk around the pretty old town). Equally, don't miss Gibraltar: the kids in our party still haven't stopped talking about the Barbary apes and St. Michael's Cave. We would have stayed longer if not wanting to get back before dark. There's a lot to see there. I requested in advance two dinners to be made in the house by Ester, the housekeeper and cook. These were good, plentiful, reasonably priced and completed on time. All agreed that we had a great week and all would return to the area. We all loved the house but none of us will miss that awful track to get there.

A beautiful house in a beautiful location
We had a great week here, enjoying the comforts of the house and its views. If anything, it's even better than it seems on the photos.

fabulous
Eight of us (four couples - young pensioners!) shared La Posada Romana in early October. We had wall-to-wall sunshine and real warmth. The house is fabulous and the description, photos and video on the HomeAway site do not overstate. We were very comfortable. Esther cooked for us on three evenings which was a great boon - she is a good cook and we particularly recommend her gazpacho, lamb and paella. We were there to relax and so did not travel large distances. We enjoyably visited several towns within a 30 mile radius - the pick was probably Casares where there were 50 eagles circling and swooping above our heads. The main supermarket in Gaucin was more than adequate for us and has a large selection of wine. Several reviewers have commented on the approach road which is about a mile partly concreted and partly unmade. It was daunting at first sight but we were soon used to it. 4WD is unnecessary but we would recommend a vehicle with adequate ground clearance as a low-slung sports car would ground on one of the concrete sections. Strongly recommended.

Palatial property in the hills
Other than the nerve wracking drive to get to the villa, the house in the hills was absolutely jaw dropping. It was clean, tidy and immaculately kept. The owner was very helpful and we utilised the chef on several occasions. My whole family loved the location and the experience. Thank you very much!

Great villa with spectacular views
We have just spent a week in this great villa. The villa is only a few years old and in perfect shape. We where up to 15 persons in the villa including children age 4-12. No problem with space! I would have given it a 5 if it was not for the gravel road and lack of outdoor swimming pool. Positive: The views from the house is really stunning Space, large bed rooms Quality of the building, furniture, TV etc Large common area/living room Kitchen Efficient and silent AC Nice with three floors when you are as many as we where in the house. Easy to communicate with owner Negative: The major downside of of the villa is the terrible gravel/concrete road which was longer and worse than expected. The official road 377 leading to AP7 is also mountain road in bad shape. The roads are so bad that some people in our party even hesitated to leave the house. To walk to Guacin is 30-40 minutes. Beds not living up to the standard of the villa Kind of difficult to get AC started in some rooms Strange height of the chairs at the dining table (to low)
