Because we had to take a train out of Brignole Station we chose this hotel a little away from the old town of Genoa. It turned out to be a great decision, as the hotels closer to the old town were much seedier looking for a lot more money. This hotel is a 15-20 minute walk from old town, on a quiet, charming pedestrian street. It's 3 minutes from the Brignole subway (and train) station so you can also get around town that way.
The manager was *extremely* helpful and friendly and recommended great local restaurants that were not expensive, and helped us sort out which sights to see and which to skip.
The room was clean and comfortable, completely modern even though in an old building. The bathroom was also completely modern and spotlessly clean.
The only drawback to this place is that you have to walk up a very long flight of steep stairs to get to the rooms. But the manager carried our large bags for us, so it wasn't a problem.
Overall, although we have not stayed in a lot of Genoa hotels, this seemed to be excellent value for the price.
