The Château
Through the wrought iron gates and up a tree lined drive, you'll find this early 19th Century Château, reputedly given by Napoleon as a gift to one of his generals. It is set on the crest of a hill with sweeping views across Gascony towards the Pyrenees mountains.
The rooms are spacious and beautifully proportioned, with light streaming in through large windows. The kitchen and bathrooms have been designed to the highest standards and there are original artworks throughout.
The emphasis is on comfort. All beds feature high quality orthopaedic, pillow top mattresses. Linens are high thread count, top quality cotton. There is abundant hot water and high pressure rainfall showers. The 5 air-conditioned bedrooms are cooled by advanced, ultra quiet units housed in the attic, and you can close the shutters for a blackout effect. An excellent night’s rest is assured.
The kitchen is equipped to entertain. There are 2 dishwashers, a top of the line ‘Everhot’ electric range (with 2 ovens, a plate warmer, a hot plate and induction hobs), a large 3 door fridge with ice dispenser, all conceivable utensils and appliances along with place settings for 20+ guests.
There is seating for 16 on the covered terrace off the walled courtyard. Should you prefer to dine inside there is seating for 20 in the orangerie. There are additional dining areas in the garden, the kitchen and the library. Our private chef can produce epic banquets for large groups or intimate multi course dinners. Please ask for more details.
The heated salt water pool has plenty of sun loungers to soak up the rays, and is surrounded by a child safe fence. There is a swing, a slide, a trampoline, lots of toys and pool inflatables. The 5 acre grounds include gardens, a meadow, woods and plenty of pathways for children to explore.
There is access, a dedicated ground floor bedroom and a full set of equipment for limited mobility people. Please ask for further details.
There is a desk and printer in the library, with Wi-Fi distributed throughout the property using hotel style technology.
British terrestrial channels, Apple TV and the US version of Netflix are available on the 50-inch TV in the salon.
The Area
Gascony is a rural idyll considered to be the gastronomic heart of France. The rolling countryside around the estate is a stunning patchwork of vineyards, sunflowers and wheat fields, interspersed with chocolate box villages of honeyed stone.
You’ll have the road to yourself as you drive or cycle along the winding country lanes. Signs along the roadside invite you to buy seasonal fruit, fresh vegetables, foie gras, eggs and duck from small, family run farms.
We spent years looking for this property and believe that this area is one of the loveliest and most authentic parts of the French countryside. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!
