Classy turn of the century look on downtown Nevada City
The property is a beautifully maintained historic building in charming downtown Nevada City. My best friend and I stayed for a girls get away and had a fantastic time exploring the town. Wonderful shops and restaurants and the people were warm and friendly.
Beautiful hotel in the best location in Nevada City. However, if you stay during the winter, the rooms are drafty and cold due to Victorian windows. So just be prepared. Staff brought me a nice space heater for the bathroom. Closing the thick curtains also helps. Would stay again .. a little pricey for the size and season…the e o oh bad part about the hotel is the morning coffee— it’s super weak…
A very kind Douglas checked me in and what a super kind person they were! They answered all my questions about the area and gave me additional suggestions which I appreciated.
We also had an amazing dinner in the bar while listening to live music - all on a Monday night! We’ll be back!
Everything in the Hotel was great, especially the band in the bar! Had breakfast in the dining room, service was good, but the food tasted like it was cooked in rancid oil. But overall, we enjoyed our stay.
This was our second time staying at the National and we absolutely love it. We stayed her last when we celebrated our wedding in 2023, just down the road at Stone House, and wanted to return to the place where we celebrated our special day! It's great having Lola and the Nash attached to the hotel, and it's dog friendly, which makes it so great to be able to bring our dog with us. The only challenge we had during this stay was that our fridge began leaking water out of nowhere, and we aren't sure if anyone came to tend to the problem after we called to let the front desk know. There was still water when we returned from our day out. Outside of that, everything was great and we look forward to coming back!
Beautifully restored hotel, its historical integrity preserved. On the main drag in Nevada City, convenient to all. Superb restaurant. Among the best fried chicken I've ever had. Tastefully decorated with period antiques. In place of a TV, an old radio which you can tune to local station. Plumbing is temperamental and bathroom cold (winter), but these are minor concerns.
