Tough review to make: This older-style house is fine for some vacation styles, but not others. Listing highs/lows:
The good:
*Location: As described, if not better. As close to beach as could be without being on it. Direct public access after crossing a small, lightly traveled residential street. Perfect location for spending days at oceanfront.
*New power reclining sectional sofas and chair, complete with cup holders, storage and USB; different from pictures - great surprise! Along w/ TiVo and Netflix/Hulu apps, good for relaxing time.
The bad:
*Ants in house (incl bedroom): Arrived on a Sunday eve after large storm on Sat. Saw few dozen ants, coming from family-room window sill, then saw hundreds on, in and around master bedroom. Wife and I didn't unpack and slept in fam rm chairs that night.
- Fam Rm wall had water damage throughout: peeling interior walls in at least 6 areas, 12-24 in. tall Was dry, so didn't seem to be from storm that happened right before arrival.
* Lots of kitchen cabinets, but filled with many redundant items (ex, pans upon pans, couple dozen wine and coffee cups) and no room for any pantry items so never could settle-in to store food items, and had to be strewn out along countertops. Since this house is far removed from most restaurants, curating/organizing kitchen is important and would help to being able to "settle-in".
management company: Sent emails on ants Sun night. mgmt responded just after 8a Monday, follow-up called @ 9a, pest control out @ 10a. Took care of politely/quickly - left personal cell to immediately respond if we saw more later in stay - which we did on Day 5, but not where orig sprayed - coming through another window frame. He asked what time we were going to leave on last day, so he could make sure to "douse the whole house" before next renters; indicated this was unusual, but cared about well-being of guests, and not just punching-clock. (We later found where we think the nest was below the house.); Same day @ 11a, other contractor arrived to address non-pest issues: (wall-damage, roof trim blown off hanging on wires, screen tears, unhooked faucet sprayer) Couldn't have asked for better responsiveness from mgmt company.
BtmLn: owner puts money into house (i.e: new sofa, newer siding, prem cable), but having more proactive action against pests and water damage, and better kitchen org would have made for smoother stay.
