Stunning hotel but service is lacking
Large and luxurious hotel, however, not particularly catered for international tourists due to the language barrier. There isnt really much in the vicinity of the hotel and most attractions are at least 30 mins away by taxi. Beach at the back of the hotel is left to be desired.

Good experience. Next to the beach, but maybe only 90% qualified as a beach front property, good enough! Located in a quiet neighborhood., not much services in the proximity. Internal landscape and services meet 5 star ratings.

Though the booking through Expedia.com is convenient, but the admin is inflexible, no breakfast provided for such price as compared to a similar category of hotels in Wenchang & Sanya. Too far from CBD areas, thus additional transportation expenses incurred. Wifi not functioning steady and well.

Overall Experience
I'm generally very satisfy with the experience . The area that need to improve is the room service, one morning the staff forget to include butter when serving breakfast in the room, the next day no tea strainer and the next forget to include milk for adding into the tea. What the staff need is a check list .

Decent beach resort in Haikou
Stayed three nights. We had stayed at the Shangri-La Bangalore a few nights before, and that hotel was superior in most respects. Beautiful grounds, excellent service in the lounge and at the concierge. Most staff had good English skills compared to other businesses in the area. Rooms are very spacious and well appointed. Rooms have air purifiers to account for most guests ignoring no smoking policy. Worked ok, but room still smelled. Like many of the large resort hotels in the area, the place felt almost too empty. Breakfast was not as good as other hotels in the area, from an American point of view.

Great hotel in a terrible location
The hotel itself lives up to the brand name of Shang-ri La. Hotel and room designs are excellent, with generous use of beautiful marble, plush carpet and high ceilings everywhere within the hotel, making for a grand appearance. The location is terrible. Forget walking anywhere as simply walking to the main road from the hotel will be too much effort. Plus, there is simply nothing in the area worth going to. The "sea" view is equally horrible, with nary a beach nor shore, just some water and a breakwater in the distance. The staff is disappointing. I noted in my initial booking (2 months before travel) and called a week before travel to specifically request for two adjoining rooms, and during my call the staff noted that my request is already in the system. Despite the early request, only two rooms far apart on the same floor was available. This may be normal behaviour for a Days Inn, but I expected higher quality service from Shangri-La.
