Great surprise.
Wonderful surprise. Odd location so we were nervous to see. It was clean and bright, comfy beds, updated decor, friendly staff, unique coffee set up with a full regular pot to brew in room. Will stay again!

I must say that I'm thorough impressed. I read the reviews and almost passed on it, but then i said, it's only for one night. The room is clean. I love that there's no carpet on the floor, hence the room smells fresh. I love that it has a kitchenette. The shower is big. People, I'm glad I decided to stay here, because it's wayyyyyyyy more than I expected. Oh, and the receptionists were very polite, and even offered to help with our bags. I would definitely stay here again.

Cool Central Conn Lodging, East of the River
I greatly enjoyed my recent one-night stay at the Solano Inn, in Portland, CT. I was coming from Rhode Island and eastern Connecticut, to this quiet Inn near the (eastern) bank of the Connecticut River. Middletown is not far to the west, over the big bridge. Upon arrival, I was warmly greeted at reception by Praia (? - Sorry about spelling!). She and a colleague assisted me with my luggage and some items to carry. As I have mobility challenges, I can park in 'blue' spaces (outside the Inn's main entrance). The room was spacious, seemingly newly-renovated, with a comfortable king bed and big TV. From my window, I could even see the river through the trees. This Inn has a great location. A popular breakfast place is just across the road from it (I did not go, this time), and downtown Portland is only about six minutes away west, on CT Route 66. There are several excellent restaurants around. I had a good dinner at one downtown. Upon check-out, they helped me carry my stuff out to my car! Next time I visit this area, I would stay at the Solano Inn. Quiet and comfy, it is a nice place to stay. Thank You!

The staff was very helpful and accommodating. The room was spacious and nicely decorated. It had a nice TV, table and chairs, fridge and the bed was excellent. I think the only thing missing was a microwave.

Beautiful place. Room was wonderful. Only thing that would be an improvement, is more towel racks in the bathroom near the shower, along with more counter space around the bathroom sink, or providing a mirror by the kitchen area sink to apply makeup, etc. Otherwise, our stay was perfect. Staff was great, as was our room.
