Good, but dated
The room was nice - fairly big and comfortable. A trouser-press, but no fridge, which was disappointing. Water pressure good and hot. Shower over a bath, which isn't ideal for elderly people, although handrails are provided. The mattress was firm, which we like, but a little hard - a topper would have helped. The hotel is pleasant, but a bit dated. It's a good location - fairly quiet and easy to find. The staff were friendly and polite. Breakfast has a good selection, although the full English is clearly not cooked to order - items had been kept warm for some time. Reasonable value for money, but would have liked a fridge, more comfortable mattress and a breakfast that was fresher.

Uncomfortable hard bed and even harder pillows.
Pillows were very hard and uncomfortable. I had asked for extra pillows but only 4 were provided, which is usually standard in a hotel. There were no softer pillows available.

Classic style hotel, looking a bit tired
It's a reasonable Hotel is quite a nice location it's just looking fairly run down. We had our Christmas Party here 6 years ago and it looks pretty much the same but just more tired and old. Staff were generally friendly and service was ok. Cleanliness in the hotel was ok. Sleep quality was fairly good, the room was a bit cold. Tap water came out nice and hot but the shower could only do freezing cold or cold (Room 201).

Could not fault it accept I could hear the man above me going to the toilet in the middle of the night and getting back in bed. The bed squeaking. Then getting woke up every morning at 6.15 when he got up could hear him using the toilet shower and opening and closing draws. My bed was very squeaky also every time I moved

The hotel was a very good price. The room was clean and big enough for two people, had tea and coffee with a kettle so could make a hot drink. Excellent shower. Breakfast was a bit small and expensive at £14 per person but the staff were friendly and very professional and quick to serve. Free parking outside the hotel was good and there was plenty of space. The hotel is in the middle of nowhere so you do need a car. But that adds to the quiet, peaceful, and relaxing atmosphere of the place

My stay at the Hickshead hotel has been excellent in many respects, especially the helpfulness of the staff and their proactive attitudes. Unfortunately if you have a room facing the carpark not only do you get woken up at silly o'clock by patrons chatting in the carpark but also by the smell of cigarette smoke coming in through the window. Yes I did have to get up and close the window. The Hotel is very convenient, the food is good and as I say the Staff make this place somewhere I will return.
