Lovely Stay
The location was stunning with the ocean on one side and the volcano on the other side. Very quiet and tiny village with a couple great restaurants/coffee shop. Within walking distance to the trail head of the Hellnar-Arnarstapi hike. The cottage was cozy and the beds comfy. We loved our stay and would definitely stay again!

Gorgeous house!
We really enjoyed our stay here! The house is absolutely beautiful. Everything is brand new and it looks like it must have been professionally decorated. It was very cozy and comfortable, and it was perfect for our family. It was spotlessly clean. Our kids absolutely loved the stairs leading to the bedrooms (just note they are steep and may be difficult for people with mobility issues, but they were fine for us). You do have to clean the unit and do the laundry before you leave, so just make sure you plan for that in your schedule - all cleaning supplies were provided. It was a great location for us, and the host was very accommodating and responsive. The neighborhood is very nice and plenty of parking. Black out shades were great for the midnight sun.

Hellnar Cottages Sea and Glacier views
A lovely simple comfortable cottage with stunning views of the volcano and glacier, and views out to the sea. Bring binoculars we saw dolphins from the house. The cottage is warm and has everything you need for a comfortable stay. The stairs are very steep so be aware of this for small children and older visitors. We had a fantastic time lots of walks close by a lovely bay a short walk away . It is quite an isolated location so bring food drink and entertainment if required. Be prepared to spend your last day washing and cleaning. It takes some time to wash and dry all bedding. Would go back though it was a beautiful introduction to Iceland. We were so lucky and saw whales Orca and Minke plus a Basking shark and seals near by. Lots of bird life. North of the peninsular is well worth a visit, we heard Sèa Eagles and the landscape was stunning. Thank you for an amazing stay.

Wonderful location!
This was such a beautiful spot. We watched the Aurora right on the property two of our four nights there. We saw whales down by the shore. Do keep in mind that cleaning takes a bit, mainly waiting for the laundry. We had to fly out in the afternoon so had to wake up super early to finish it all, but just know that going in. Otherwise the place is well worth staying.

Great little place with incredible location
We stayed 4 nights and absolutely loved it! The place is clean and downstairs is spacious even with a family of 5. The stairs are very steep, so they don’t recommend for anyone with mobility issues or very young kids. The views of Snaefellsjokull are unbelievable and you can also see the ocean on the other side. The location is perfect for exploring the many sights and activities of the peninsula. Note it does take a long time to wash and dry the bed linens on departure (it took almost 5 hours) so you need to start early if you have plans. Thank you for having us!!

Hellnar is the place to stay
The location of this property is fabulous! It is remote, but we were able to walk to a delicious dinner our first night at the Fosshotel and the National Park is right down the road. We cooked the other nights we were there, and the kitchen had everything we needed. Definitely stop at the Bonus grocery store in Borgarnes because there are no stores nearby. As for activities, we hiked in several locations and we went on a whale watch. However, the best thing we did was to watch the orcas right off the beach! We saw them for 3 days in a row. We split our time in Iceland between Hellnar and Reykjavik and we wish we had stayed longer in Hellnar. The house itself is adorable, although be aware that the stairs are very steep and the only bathroom is downstairs. The only slight negative was that you really need to plan some time for thoroughly cleaning the house before you leave. Fortunately, we had the time, but it's not really what you want to do on vacation. However, I would absolutely stay here again!

Beauty and silence of Snaefellsnes peninsula
Great communication from the start to finish with the owner. Very easy to get a hold off when needed and even reached out to us right when we arrived. We were able to let ourselves in to the beautiful home at the secluded and quiet location in Hellnar. The home is surrounded by a handful of similar homes, but we never heard any noise from anyone. The owner has a set of keys with an alarm that monitors while we were out exploring. It was nice to have even more assurance that our luggage was safe when away. It was great to have a washer and dryer during the stay. So convenient after having stayed at multiple hotels during this trip. There was a nice living room and kitchen with fridge downstairs and a couch and tv upstairs with the three bedrooms. A lot of options to relax after a long day. There are a handful of small restaurants about a 5 minute drive down the road and nicer, larger restaurants and stores within 30 minutes. Very convenient to some top photography locations. We originally wanted to stay in a larger city near they but with everything sold out for the days we wanted, this was what we decided on. A very nice surprise. Would definitely return and recommend to others. The only notice I would leave is that you are asked to wash your sheets and towels at the end of your stay as well as clean the house with cleaning supplies. This wasn’t a problem at all, just wasn’t expecting it. Very easy to keep clean and follow the instructions at checkout.

Amazing Hellner Hidaway
We absolutely loved this place. The area and cottage are amazing and we had lots to do for the four days we stayed. The crowning glory was we opened the front door and were greeted by an amazing Aurora Light Show. We would definitely like to spend more time here.

Perfect cottage in wonderful location
Very comfortable accommodation with everything needed to make our short stay a pleasure. Communication with the owner was very easy and their warm welcome and advice prior to arrival was appreciated. We would definitely use Kjarvalströð 8 again.

Quiet scenic hideaway
Our family had a fabulous stay over 4 days on the peninsula. We had plenty of room for sleeping, relaxing, and cooking our own meals. The stairs were a bit challenging to master so would advise against smaller children and older adults since all sleeping was upstairs. The dryer takes hours so plan ahead with the laundry to complete before your departure. We enjoyed the view of the ocean from one side and the mountains from the other. We had scenic walks to the water and convenient day trips for other activities.

Great hosts, great property
We booked two cottages in Hellnar to accomodate our parents during our wedding and everything was fantastic. The owners were very friendly and communicative in advance of our stay and we had a great time in the houses, which are indeed very beautifully located and tastefully decorated. Thank you for everything, it was a great experience!

Confort and silence in an incredible region
We enjoyed our stay at Hellnar. The house was confortable and spacious. Snaefellsness peninsula is indeed a summary of the Iceland landscape. The only regret was that our holidays ended so soon. Few words cannot describe the beauty of icelandese nature, history and culture. We strongly intend to return one day.

Wonderful Stay,
Wonderful "village" with some other black houses just next to ours. No worries to have regarding the proximity of the others houses. Great location, and well equipped, very mordern. The house that we booked was smaller than expected (1 house separated in two houses). We were Quite surprise of the size of the bathroom,.. very small,.. as well as the 3 rooms that were quite small. (Not enough room to put our luggage in the floor) On the other hand, It's the prefect spot to see Norther light as they are NO LIGHT Pollution Km around. We had the chance to see a wonderful Norther light during 2h early September. That was awsome. Before departure, you need to clean everything, made the laundry,... That's not a problem if you are aware of it,.. but it takes some time,.. In other word, you need to prepare the house for the next guest, because no one will come in between to check or to clean.

A great place to stay
We had a wonderful time in this clean and well appointed cottage. The location was perfect for day trips around the peninsula. Working with the owner was easy and we appreciated his quick and helpful response when we had a question. We found the two floor layout convenient for our small family. The large downstairs family room was very nice and filled with light. Older folks may find the stairs to the bedrooms on the second floor a little steep, but it was no problem for any of us. The kitchen had everything we needed and was easy to work in. The close proximity to the other houses was a non-issue, and the house felt private. We hope we can return on our next trip!

This cabin was perfect!
We had a wonderful stay at the cabin in Hellnar. The host Jakob was so helpful and accommodating. I was concerned, at first, about staying in Hellnar and whether there would be enough to do in the area. There was so much to do in just an hour radius that we didn't see everything in four days! I can honestly say this is one of the best places I have ever rented before. The beautiful setting, with the glacier to the front and the ocean at the back, made this cabin perfect for our group. Also, the beds were super comfy. :) I plan to come back and visit again one day. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a cabin in this area.

Great Time in Hellnar ...
We had a very good time in "the second home of Jakob and Elsa". Thank you very much to have the good stay there. The House is very good furnished and well equipped. The location is absolutely perfect to relaxe, to enjoy Iceland and to make beautiful little or longer exploring tours by car or just by walking around the Snæfellsjökull. Unexpected at our first and second night in Hellnar there were aurora and good conditions to make some nice Fotos. Best regards, Nik & Andrea
