We chose Holyhead because it’s close to South Stack (incredible scenery, and lots of birds - and baby birds!), and Newborough (we didn’t end up going there, but it sounds beautiful). Holyhead itself is a bit run down, and not a tourist destination, more of a pass-through place according to the locals. But The Hut was close to Market Street with pubs, restaurants and grocery stores, and an easy walk from the train station. We managed to get a taxi to South Stack (there aren’t a lot of them), but not back to The Hut, so we walked the 3-4 miles back, but of course that’s not for everyone.
Our room was nice - cozy bedroom, comfortable bed, plenty of outlets (but none in the bathroom, we’re convinced this is a UK thing), spacious bathroom, plenty of hot water. Satellite TV was iffy, WiFi was good, no lift so be prepared to carry your bags up a flight or two. No food on-site, but a lounge on the first floor where you can hang out and/or eat your “takeaway”.
Self check-in worked well, and allowed us to check-in very late (our train didn’t arrive until after midnight). All in all, a satisfactory experience.
