I have stayed 2 nights in a double room with private bathroom.
I tried to have a shower 5 times during this 2-day stay, only once the water was hot so I could actually have a shower. For as much as I asked at the reception to fix it, the different ladies throughout my stay could not do much about it. One girl one night even checked other rooms for hot water but no success. I was like, tomorrow before breakfast then? She was like, no it won't work either, as a technician needs to come to "fix it" and he doesn't come early in the day. I was like, so this technician has to come everyday to turn on the hot water? She kind of said an uncertain "yes" just to brush it off.
There was NO communication issues here as I can speak Spanish fluently. I think management purposefully turns off the water heater to save on costs
Anyway inconsistent hot water seams to be an issue in Peru. If this is important for you make sure to find reviews that specifically mentions hot water was not an issue, otherwise you'll be having showers at room temperature which can vary from 7 to 20c (45F to 68F). Depending on altitude and season.
Furthermore, they keep loud music palying until late at night with a super strong bass, at least past 1am. An this is by no mean a "party hostel". Keep in mind that most excursions leave at 7am!!
Considering the 45$ / night in June, I don't think it's worth the money as you have no peace/quite time nor hot water when you’re back from your day excursion.
