Home away from home
From the very early check in to the very late check out, the staff at Macka Palas was outstanding. I was celebrating my 50th with my closest friends and we had a blast. The staff was always so helpful, efficient, caring and had a mating attention to detail. I can only recommend this hotel, it really feels like home away from home.

Excellent location with the best shopping/restaurants. Food on-site was very good including room service. One of the very few hotels on Expedia that recognized me as a VIP and gave the most amazing amenities in our room plus a beautiful upgrade! The best part of this hotel is the staff! All are fantastic, and each gave truly memorable moments and made our stay so enjoyable. From Sema hanim in housekeeping who found my daughter's beloved stuffed animal in the laundry when we thought it was gone forever, to Enser bey in the front who assisted us with luggage and was so endearing with my daughter practicing Chinese with her (xiexie!), to the sweetest front desk Kivanc bey and his amazing and gentle demeanor with my daughter, as well as Anas bey who was one of the main reasons we extended our stay by 4 nights (Thank you to our superstar, Anas bey!) to Ibrahim bey at the front desk always with a smile for us, to Necla hanim at breakfast who made us feel like royalty with her attention and smile, to Umut bey in room service who went above & beyond to help, to Ilayada hanim who booked our hair appointments with a smile, to one of the stand-out staff members of our entire stay (I wrote it down but cannot find now! It started with an "S" - maybe Senol bey?) who not only booked us on short notice at restaurants he also made an amazing recommendation for the best lahmacun we've ever had in Istanbul (at Mahir!) Turkish hospitality at its finest - thank you to you all!

We had an incredible experience at this hotel, from the check in process with Ibrahim throughout our entire stay. We received excellent service from everyone who worked at this hotel. The breakfast was wonderful and all staff there were kind, professional and extremely attentive. Our wait staff consisted of Kebru, Kadir and Necla all of whom provided us with best in class service. Our room was perfect, gorgeous and large with high ornate ceilings with a sleek bathroom that also had a steam room and an amazing open shower concept. Our room attendant, Serpil, made sure our room was clean and had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. The spa and gym have been completely renovated and are extremely nice. We would highly recommend this hotel for all of these reasons as well as its location, which is ideal for great shopping, restaurants and really convenient for walking.

Not a 5 star hotel
Sadly this hotel was very disappointing. The entrance is underwhelming, not what you would expect from a 5 star property. We were upgraded due to my status at hotels.com but even then the room was awful! It was a deluxe room, with a view of an ugly building. The room is very large but the space has not been used effectively. The TV is large but placed in an awkward position so we struggled to connect our fire stick as there were no sockets nearby. The first impression is drab, dreary and messy. All the paintings on the wall were wonky. The curtains looked old and messy and the bathroom is ugly. The floor tiles look like horrible old tiles you see in very basic public toilets in parks. The shower and bath were also ugly and cold, they have this plastic looking wall that separates the room and bathroom which is just hideous. The mattress was so uncomfortable that I slept on the chair and the toilet is far too low and a very weird shape which was uncomfortable. I had just had surgery so the comfort of the room was very important and this hotel does not provide that. The entrance to the breakfast area is unwelcoming and dated, as if you are walking into a school canteen and the breakfast selection was poor. This is not a luxury hotel, I would rate it 4 star maximum. Whoever designed it has not gone for the luxury look. I would not stay here again. I have to say that the staff were all amazing. Only issue was nobody came to help with our bags, even after we called them.
