About this property

You'll have the entire cabin to yourself and will only share it with other guests in your party.

The Outpost was destroyed by flooding September, 2024. NO LONGER IN OPERATION

Dear friends,

I have left this site active to inform you that The Outpost on the Noli is no longer in operation. The cabin was completely washed away by flooding following a weather system that saturated the area, this catastrophically compounded by Hurricane Helene. The beauty of our river valleys throughout the area has been devastated.

This event has shaken me to the core. The loss of beauty, wildlife, and property is heartbreaking. What resonates as profoundly is the loss of welcoming guests to my beautiful home; sharing the perfect, most magical place with others to bond with family and friends, unwind, and connect with nature. This is truly heart wrenching and I miss that aspect of my life everyday.

Rebuilding is not an option. Financially not so, but even if it were, the landscape is not a welcoming sight. This very well could be the case for many years to come.

To my previous guests, many whom were return guests, my appreciation is unmeasurable. I assure you, each of you were a blessing in my life. It would be nice to hear from you.

And so, for the final time…

Happy trails,
Alex

Enjoy the peace and seclusion of The Outpost. The river so close it feels like part of the cabin decor! The setting is at the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains and at the edge of the Cherokee National Forest. The river and a creek provide two boundaries of the property.

AND TO PUT YOUR MIND AT EASE: With a background in nursing and having practiced for thirty one years, infection control practices are carried into my home and business. A two night vacancy is required between guests. As well, all laundry is washed with the addition of Lysol Laundry Sanitizer.

The property is centrally located to Jonesborough, Tri-Cities, Greeneville, and Erwin. It is situated for perfect day trips to Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, Asheville and Hot Springs, NC, and Abingdon, VA. If you are like many guests however, once you arrive, you will be hesitant to leave The Outpost until time of your departure.

Rustic, clean and welcoming cabin with three bedrooms, well-appointed kitchen and two common areas. Each living area has a futon that converts to a full-size bed for additional sleeping. There is a full bathroom with tub/shower. The second bathroom with shower is in the adjoining structure in the Pavilion. There is an additional large sink in the Pavilion.

So you thought you would forgo the culinary labors throughout vacation; well, you may decide otherwise when you see the views from the kitchen and the fact that this kitchen is equipped like no other vacation rental. Such a joy to cook while watching the river flow and from two different views!

Grilling on the gas grill on the covered Lido Deck is another option, thereby enjoying beautiful panoramic views. Deciding which outdoor setting you will enjoy while dining becomes yet another decision with each meal.

The River Porch tends to be the focal point of the cabin. Rocking chairs provide the perfect spot from which you can lose yourself while watching the Nolichucky River flow steadily by. Early morning coffee tends to be a favorite activity for the River Porch!

The Pond Porch is accessed through French doors from each bedroom. It not only overlooks the pond but also provides a 'wide-angle view' of the foothills, fields, and, in the winter time, the creek. (There is a pond but unfortunately with repeated flooding in years past with silt settling into the pond, it has steadily become more shallow. Wildlife love it still so does provide for great photo opportunities.).

The Lido Deck provides many angles of the pond, fields and river. There is both covered and uncovered decking. The covered area has the grill with serving bar and eating areas. And, if you have ever felt cheated of your vacation due to inclement weather you will likely feel it a blessing at The Outpost! The sound of rain on the metal roof, on the trees and in the river is mesmerizing. You can enjoy the grill and also the outdoor games provided for just such occasions.

The Pavilion is screened with views of the pond and river. There are fans and a fireplace. The Lower Deck off The Pavilion is a favorite, as the proximity to the river lends a presence all its own.

About a 12 mile drive in any direction will take you to nice grocery stores. Local, much closer businesses have what is needed to "get you by" or supplement your supplies. There are close, locally owned restaurants as well. Information about the local businesses and towns is provided to guests prior to arrival.

You will not want to miss quaint and well-preserved Jonesborough, the oldest town in Tennessee. Storytelling is a huge attraction here and in fact, the town hosts the International Storytelling Festival in October. Being the oldest town in the state there are many historical structures. A very impressive Visitors Center has information on tours and events. There are unique dining venues and shops, a local brewery and distillery. There are nice grocery stores and a local Farmer's Market. Festivals are commonplace in Jonesborough.

There are many destinations you will enjoy within the Cherokee National Forest, including hiking trails, waterfalls and picnic areas. The Outpost is less than 2 miles from a gorgeous 40-foot waterfall, more impressive when there has been recent rains. Numerous trailheads are in the immediate area. Viking Mountain provides a breathtaking vista. Paint Creek Corridor is a beautiful drive and great for bicycling. There are too many to mention.

As the owner of The Outpost I am confident that your stay at The Outpost would exceed all expectations. As many guests have expressed, "words can not describe it", "pictures do not do it justice". Let the unique nature of The Outpost transform your vacation into a one-of-a-kind experience.
It would be a pleasure to serve as your host to your entire family, including your furry loved ones, and, oh yes, feathered ones too! (I had a parrot once).
Dogs, and cats, love The Outpost and I love having them!

The Outpost is a tobacco-free property.

The Outpost...the place you visit and wish you never had to leave
My family just stayed at the Outpost in Sept 2024 for five days...and wish we had booked for longer! Alex is a fantastic host, offering an immaculate 3 bedroom home with fantastic views of the mountains and river. Alex met us on arrival and gave us a tour of the property, she also checked in via text throughout our stay to make sure that we had no questions or needed anything from her family. She is a treasure! Outdoor spaces include a covered and uncovered porches, an enclosed pavilion with gorgeous fireplace and plenty of outdoor seating. Indoors you will not find WIFI and limited (Verizon) cell service, but you do not need it! With movies and music, games to play and a great kitchen to cook in you have all you need to truly unplug and get away in a private oasis. There is an Ingles grocery store (and super Walmart) about a half hour away down route 107 (Take a right out of the drive to the end, then take a left) and a few chain restaurants. The Cherokee National forest is short drive away for trail hiking. Or you never have to leave the Outpost and can enjoy watching the turtles in the vernal pond out front, fish or kayak/float in the river or just sit on the porch and enjoy this private setting with your family and friends.

Very secluded but not very peaceful
Alex was great and super helpful. The cabin was very clean and well kept and had everything that you need. The deck space is fantastic. Plenty of room to spread out with a view of the river from everywhere. Access to the water is easy and convenient as well. We brought our dogs and they loved it.

The Treehouse
This place was like a giant treehouse with multiple branches/decks to hang out on and enjoy. We had a great time! We did a little kayaking and hiking to local waterfalls and just hanging out on the porches at the house. We saw alot of wildlife, from turkey, turtles, and fish to the resident owl that stayed the weekend. There are some specific rules to follow, such as meeting alex upon arrival to show you around and locking the gate every time you enter and exit the property, but would not keep us from renting again. The overall house is rustic but alex keeps it very clean. The idividual A/C units in each room was great for individuals to customize to their liking. We also appreciated the use of Alex's kayaks. We caught several blue gill fish in the pond by using insects found on the property. It would be great to visit the property again during another season!

Restoration and peace
The simple but thoughtfully laid out rental met all our needs. I needed some comfort and connection to nature. Along with others in my group I was thoroughly nurtured by The Outpost. If one didn’t feel at peace just being there, one hadn’t tried. The recommendations for day hikes to waterfalls are spot on. For the physically abled only, but incredibly worth it. We treasured the uniqueness of Jonesborough and the food options in Greenville. And the generosity of Alex was a gift from God ❤️

Perfect for a much needed break...
We wanted quality family time while visiting our youngest son during ETSU's Family Weekend...The Outpost was the perfect rustic getaway. We were able to unplug, unwind, and just enjoy every aspect of the property. Early morning coffee out on the porch with a unique sighting of river otters just by the house in the river, afternoon hikes and/or naps, and evenings of grilling out, bonfires, & games. Alex is an amazing host!! She was quick to respond to all questions and welcoming to all of our sons, their gals, and our Aussiedoodles! Being able to have ALL family members there made this getaway even more special. We appreciate that Alex loved our fur babies and understands how they are a part of a family too! Alex is generous, kind, and has the sweetest spirit! We are so happy that she shares The Outpost with others. We can't wait to visit again!!

The Outpost will certainly give you a relaxing and enjoyable experience. Listening to the river, birds, and wildlife is awesome as you sit on one of the porches and take in nature. Great to have the fireplace at the pavilion where you can enjoy it, rain or shine. Kitchen was the most equipped of any place we had rented. Caught fish and they were delicious. So many adventures nearby to explore, and Alex has a lot of info to check out. Alex was a great host who was quick to comminicate and wants to make certain your stay is enjoyable, comfortable, and safe. We thoroughly enjoed our time at the Outpost!

We loved it!!!
So much to say about this place, but Alex, the host really covers it all. We enjoyed this unique place on the river. Alex will likely greet you and show you where everything is. Her wealth of knowledge of the area is remarkable. Our dogs loved a swim or two in the river each day, then could dry off on the deck as there is a doggie gate to keep them contained and safe. Plenty of property for a few throws of a Frisbee too. A daily walk of the property we found a butterfly bush full of butterflies, some wildflowers and even a rock grown into a tree. There are a couple swings near the pond but I think watching the river and kayaks with morning coffee or evening beverage on the deck might have been the best. We were visited by a couple herons, a white and gray. We were amazed at what the cabin had to offer. Pretty much anything you could need, Alex said if you need something call me first, it's likely there. I recommend the Bulk store nearby and The Farmers Daughter for some southern fixens. There are a few places for food nearby. Thanks for a great stay.

What a paradise!
The Outpost is our favorite place we have ever stayed! It’s indescribable! Alex makes you feel right at home. There is so much to do and explore without even going anywhere! We saw so many birds, from a hummingbird all the way up to a Bald Eagle! All in just one morning. We explored the creek up to the church and ran into a few other creatures along the way! Our favorite place to hang out I think was either Lido Deck or the Pavilion. It was chilly enough one evening we even got to use the fireplace in August! We can’t wait to return! Thank you Alex!
