Rose Cottage is a beautiful family getaway, located in the peace and quiet of the countryside.
Spread over three levels, the house offers a range of spaces that make it perfect for family groups of up to 10, or up to 4 couples (please note that base pricing is for the first 6 people).
Completely redecorated and renovated in 2019, the house, furnishings and fit out is to a high standard, inviting you to relax in comfort.
Children will entertained for hours, with a swimming pool (Normally available Labour weekend to Easter), large standalone play house, trampoline, swing and an orchard to explore. They’ll love hanging out in the fully finished attic, which comfortably sleeps 4 kids and provides a great play space with child size furniture, easel, toys and books.
Downstairs you will find a modern well equipped kitchen, featuring gas hobs, stone benches, and good quality cookware. A Weber bbq is also provided.
The open plan indoor dining and lounge features 2 large comfy 4 seater couches plus bench seating. 2 separate arm chairs by the window are perfect for reading, and a log burner is available for use in winter (please check when booking). Board games are also on offer.
French doors open onto a large covered and glassed-in verandah, that offers wonderful views towards the Remutukas. Protected from the prevailing wind, the verandah provides a further dining and lounging space, allowing large groups to spread out.
Downstairs you will also find a brand new tiled bathroom with shower, separate toilet and laundry.
The first floor has a further bathroom (with separate bath and shower), toilet, and three bedrooms. The two queen and one double bedrooms all enjoy beautiful outlooks and are carefully laid out with visitors needs in mind. The master bedroom is large enough to also host a portable cot, for those travelling with infants.
Access to the top level - a fully finished attic - is via a ‘secret’ (and narrow) staircase, which older kids (4+) will love. Close supervision for younger kids on the stairs is needed.
With two king single beds, and a large day bed that can pull out to a queen bed, it can host 3-4 adults. But it’s furnished with kids in mind, providing them with an exciting play space of their own, away from the adults.
Outside you will find a variety of spaces. From room for deck chairs around the pool, and a tiled dining area above, to spots amongst the trees and orchard that are perfect for a bit of quiet. There are out door games like swingball and croquet for the kids. And a gin deck with outdoor bath for adults wanting to enjoy the sunset or stars (availability not guaranteed due to risks of hoses bursting with frost in winter).
A frog pond in the orchard is now filled and in the planting stage. Please note this should be considered unfenced and close supervision of children is needed around the orchard and pond. But for older kids, observing the aquatic life will be a joy.
We are developing the garage into a games space and bar, with second fridge freezer, ping pong table and foosball.
All indoor linen is provided. We ask that you bring pool towels.
Rose Cottage is less than 15 minutes from each of Martinborough and Featherston, and about 15 minutes to Greytown, and 30 minutes from Lake Ferry. This makes it a great place to base yourself while you explore the Wairarapa.
Basic hiring rate is for first 6 people. Additional charges apply for 7-10 guests.
Good to know:
Rose cottage is a rural property that operates on rain water and septic tank systems. All water provided through inside taps is UV and carbon filtered. Guests are asked to be mindful of water use in summer given dependency on rain collection.
Internet and wifi are provided. Due to this being a rural property, connection speeds are slower than in cities, but usually sufficient for email, web browsing, and basic social media. There is reasonable cellular coverage.
Pool is available in summer months, log burner in winter. If you want to use these, please check prior to booking that they will be available - we need to ensure annual chimney sweep etc before first use.
The interior was thoroughly redecorated, with new kitchen and downstairs bathroom, in 2019. In order to help maintain standards for future guests, we require all visitors to use our cleaner.
Please note that there are water sources on or near the property with limited fencing - such as stock troughs and frog ponds. Young children must be supervised at all times.
A high chair is available in the garage.
Pets are welcome by prior arrangement. Because the house is located on a working farm and stock such as cows may be near by, dogs need to be suitable trained or restrained. There is no fencing designed to keep dogs in.
