The Flying Honu is located in the heart of Kona three blocks from the Ironman starting line. Built on the fragrant pathway from the mountain to the sea (Mauka to Makai ) it is a great example of Hawaiian single wall construction. Open floor plan with large windows to let the ocean and mountain breezes inn. Large master bedroom with ceiling fan. The lanai sleeping area has two full size beds . We provide everything you will need for your day at the beach mask, snorkels, fins, beach chairs, boogie boards .

Great location, everything we needed
Nice place to stay with plenty of space. Great location to restaurants in Kona. Had a parking spot which was awesome. Marc was friendly and welcoming. Cooked dinner in the kitchen which was good too.

Marc was friendly, communicative, and flexible. We were able to check in a little early and the property was immaculately clean when we arrived. It's a pretty no-nonsense place with few amenities (no air conditioning!) but it was safe and comfortable. Some noise overnight from neighbours (we had the windows open for the breeze) but nothing outrageous.

Real Bohemian vibe.live this place. It's roomy, airy and has a great lanai. Marc, the host is a joy. He was there making sure everything was perfect. If your looking for fancy and modern, this isn't it. It has the true Hawaiian vibe. I enjoyed my stay and look forward to staying here again.

Very nice stay
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The site was well stocked with towels and kitchen items. Having a washer and dryer was wonderful. We also used the beach chairs, boogie boards and snorkeling gear available under the unit. There was even a grass spot for us to store the top to our jeep for a day for a ride up the coast. The property managers were extremely friendly, helpful and immediately responsive. They went above and beyond to make our stay really special.

We like the fact that it was close by grocery stores, laundry on site, and there was private. The rooms were big. We didn’t like that it did not have air-conditioning, But we knew that, but it was shush hot. There were no windows, only screens that covered the space. Because of the heat, the ants were coming in, and these weren’t little ants. These were red ants. I traveled with my family and my kids were getting bitten during the night hours. The owner did spray the next day. But that shouldn’t be the case, this should’ve have been done prior to guess staying at his property and it should’ve been done by a professional company and not themselves. The property is old, it is not new and in it does have normal wear and tear. But it’s cleaned. You still need a vehicle to get around because the beach and other places are just too far. Overall, you need it vehicle in this island. And if you have a vehicle, you have choices or where to stay.

Breezy Lodging on Second Floor
Our host was very friendly, checked us in personally and showed us all the beach toys we could use--towels, cooler, umbrella, chairs, boogie boards, masks/snorkels. A lot of useful gear. He also suggested good snorkeling spots. The upstairs rooms had plenty of fans, was well-stocked for our stay, and we had so much room--three queen beds for just the two of us. The screened-in lanai was a cool spot for taking evening refreshments after sunset. Grocery shopping and "downtown" were just a short walk away. We enjoyed this spot as home base, but we were out playing day and night while we finished up our Kona stay. Thank you Marc for hosting us!

Don’t miss it!
My two teen kids and I LOVED this place. It is beautiful and has a ton of character, we were so sad we o Lu got to stay for one night and really hope we can return someday. Hosts are exceptionally kind and interesting people, don’t miss a chance to chat with them a bit. I stayed at six places on my trip and this was definitely my favorite. Location is great too for walking into Kona town or getting to most other places n the island.

The Flying Honu is a nice laid-back option for couples who aren’t into the resort scene. We appreciated the kitchen with a small stove where we could make a simple dinner before walking less than a mile down to Ali’i Drive. The location is a densely packed residential area, so there were some barking dogs and some traffic noise (not too close, but audible from the major roads nearby), so a head’s up for light sleepers. Mahalos to Marc for providing a convenient and comfortable stay.

Perfect on a budget
The place is clean and well equipped. It's a convenient location although there are some noisy dogs in the neighborhood. Hawaii has become so probatively expensive, it was nice to find a place where a family can stay comfortably and have a host who is so generous with towels and snorkel equipment and other necessities.
