Meteora is among the most famous and impressive regions in Greece, with huge rocks in the middle of a valley. Studies suggest that these rocks were formed 60 million years ago when weathering and earthquakes gave them their present shape.

On top of these impressive pinnacles, many monasteries were constructed in the Byzantine times. Although today only six of these monasteries operate, they form the second largest monastic community in Greece, after Mount Athos.

The view from the top of the rocks to the valley below is just breathtaking. The site is listed as a World Heritage site by Unesco.

2 Nights at Meteora
We absolutely loved our time at Meteora! The house indeed had a majestic view, with even an attached sun room/lounge near the entrance where we could sit and watch the sun rise over the rock formations. Nikolaus was also a wonderful and helpful host. He only spoke Greek and we only spoke English - but all was well with Google Translate. We would definitely recommend this to a group of friends or family!

Family Home
Beautifully and lovingly cared for family home with amazing views of Meteora’s rock formations and monasteries. The host and his mother, who live upstairs, were very kind and friendly, serving us coffee and sweets the day that we arrived and a bowl of figs the second day after at the end a long day of hiking and climbing stairs to reach the monasteries. The village of Kastraki is a jewel! Kalabaka, not so much as is much busier and a frequent stop for tour buses. The only thing that I would say, besides the coffee maker (not an issue if you know how to prepare Greek coffee), is that host keeps a dog that sometimes barks at inopportune times. Nevertheless, this is great base to explore this beautiful area.

Spectacular view
The view of the Meteora is spectacular from the property. The host of the property Nikos and his mother were very friendly and welcoming. The only recommendation that I would have for anyone going to stay at the property is to bring your own coffee pot.
