Enjoy beautiful sunrises at this completely remodeled air-conditioned condo centrally located on the Coconut Coast of Kauai’s East Side. This oceanfront two bedroom condo is in close proximity to many activities, shopping and dining. Take romantic walks along the white sandy beach or relax on the lanai and enjoy nature’s beauty amid the gentle breezes.

This second floor unit has a king size bed in the master bedroom and two twin beds in the second bedroom. There are ceiling fans in both bedrooms & the living area to circulate the cool ocean breezes. The kitchen is fully equipped and convenient to enjoy home cooked meals with your family. Sit back and enjoy family time in the living area or enjoy the use of the flat screen TV.

The property is lushly landscaped with tropical flowers, fruit trees and peaceful gardens. Enjoy a day refreshing in the pool or enjoy swimming or snorkeling in the sparkling blue Pacific. This beautiful property has lots to enjoy. Play a game of tennis or shuffleboard, grill out at the poolside barbecue, or luxuriate in the jacuzzi or sauna.

Pono Kai is a very short walk to the center of Old Kapaa Town where you can shop for local produce, browse small shops, and dine at a variety of restaurants. Activities nearby include seasonal swimming, snorkeling, water skiing, fishing, surfing, kayaking, hiking, shopping, tennis and golf. Rent a bike to enjoy a day riding along the coast on the bike path or rent a kayak or stand-up paddle board to use in the Wailua river. Activities are endless and you will be happy with all you can enjoy on your next vacation.

Kapaa Stay
This property was in a good location, on the beach, with a sidewalk along the beach. It was a short walk along the beach walking path to Kapaa restaurants and shops. Safeway was a short drive away, and Kapaa was a central location for exploring the island. The apartment rental was as advertised. Very comfortable. We could see the sun rise every morning from our balcony.

Overall, the condo was very nice and clean. The only exception were the bathroom mats that were dirty. I had to use the towels as floor mats. The condo came with beach chairs, umbrella, towels, and few other items that we didn’t use. The view was nice and right off the boardwalk.

Can’t beat the view!
This is a very comfortable condo with a king-sized bed in one room and two twins in another bedroom and two full bathrooms. The living room has a large comfortable couch and a rocking chair. The view from the living room and from the bedroom looks across a lawn and a bike path to the wide-open ocean. The kitchen has everything we needed to cook our meals and dish washing soap was provided. The management company for this private rental had a nice welcoming gift on the kitchen table when we entered and they made sure we knew they were available if we needed help with anything. One day we rented bikes (right on the bike path walking northbound about a half-mile) and the ride was one of my favorite days. You can ride southbound all the way to Lydgate Beach. If you are a chocolate lover, explore the possibilities at the Lydgate Farm (a car drive).

Perfect location!
This unit, located at the edge of a beautiful resort, was just steps away from a very swimmable beach in January. Amazing to wake up every morning and watch the sunrise over the ocean from our balcony and enjoy the sunsets on the beach. Easy walk into town, spacious unit stocked with all the basics, good pool, and lots of games/activities on site. Downsides - could really use refreshed carpet and paint and the couch needs to be cleaned. There is no central air, but there are a lot of fans. A little warm in the evenings after everyone showered but cooled off at night. Temps in the high 70s when we were there. Warning - the roosters are not a joke! They are up and outside the windows by 4:00. Bring earplugs.

Unit needs serious repair
This unit was so different from the pictures. On the pictures the unit seemed clean. The only nice about this place was the ocean view and the breeze. The carpet was old and seemed not washed in years. The place smelled like mold. There was carpet in the bathrooms which can cause even more mold. In the room with the twin beds, one of the beds linen was dirty with what looked like dried blood. Needless to say that we did not sleep in there. We ended up buying sheets and pillow cases at Ross and slept on the couch. The lamps in the rooms were rusty and old. The curtains also had some rust on them. The last straw was that on last day we saw a mouse running in the kitchen. I believe thar for this price a lot of adjustments must be done and it is inacceptable for a rental property to be this way. To sum up this was the worst rental location I ever stayed at.

Pono Kai
The Pono Kai complex is a very convenient location on the east coast of Kauai and has all on-site conveniences we need (pool, rentals, tours, events). Easy access to the north and south with a multitude of beach and food options. We have a timeshare within Pono Kai and rented this privately owned 2br/2bth condo for friends and family that traveled with us. The resort-owned units have all gone through remodel in the last 3 years and are up to date. This unit had not yet been updated and it does show its age a bit. HOWEVER, it is still in great shape, has all amenities you would need, and the location could not be better. I would stay here or have friends/family stay in this unit again. The property management company was responsive to questions. There was only one hiccup at check in when the resort was not aware of who was checking in at the unit owner's property. This miscommunication was quickly resolved, but believe it could have been avoided on one end or the other. All in all, for the location and amenities available this unit's value is exceptional.

We had a great stay on Kauai. The Pono Kai Resort is just beautiful. We love being in the Kapaa area as it gives easy access to the West and also to Princeville and Hanalei. Kapaa also has plenty of dining choices.

Clicked all the right boxes! Location is perfect!
First off, we love being situated in the middle of Kapaa Town. Easy to walk to the stores, a great bike path and a bunch of places to eat nearby. The condo is an end unit with a wonderful ocean view. While it shows it's age a bit, tear out the carpet and do some minor updates and the place would be perfect. It would probably be double the price as well! The Pono Kai property is immaculately maintained with lot's of activities to keep the family occupied after a long day at the beach. We will no doubt stay here again on our next visit!

Great location, nice place
This well-priced condo is located at the mouth of a canal where all fishing boats go out early and come back in the evening. I enjoyed that. There are also people hanging out across the canal, and periodically staying there. I did not mind that. The condo is spacious and has what you need except perhaps for coffee-bring that for your first morning. There are plenty of grills and showers and the swimming is lovely though you can't go out far because of the currents. There is a good beach, and you can step out your door to the Kapaa shared use trail along the water. You can also walk to downtown and Big Save, so for those unable to get a car, it would be perfect. You can get to shopping and nightclubs on foot. It is not a fancy or new condo, and not priced like one either, so if you can't deal with some funky wallpaper, not for you. The water is hot and plentiful. I really enjoyed it. One window you see the water rolling down the canal, another the sea, and the lanai is oceanfront. There is no air conditioning, but there are a number of fans. We wanted an extension cord so we could put the big fan in front of the open lanai--we suggested it, see if they put one in there. Finally, well-equipped kitchen, dishwasher.

My only complaint with the unit was a lack of air conditioning. With the windows open you get a heavenly breeze. Unfortunately there was quite a bit of rain and it blew in pretty bad with the windows open. That being said, I would rent this place again. Waking up every day to the waves crashing right outside was awesome.

Best of our Hawaiian vacation so far
We really Loved the view and quietness of the unit (other than those roosters), and the perfect size of kitchen. We also loved the long path in front of ocean. I took 1.5 hour walk almost every day and sometimes twice a day. We are definitely coming back to Kauai & Pono Kai!

Our Stay
In a net shell, the pictures we took of our unit looked nice. The reality, a differ story. The unit it’s self needs a newer look. The kitchen appliances; new, good, water faucet leaks, mildew, window screen missing, couch needs repair, no air conditioning, carpet had a fish hook in it and pieces of food.
