Glenelg, pet friendly spacious house with fantastic views across the bay to Skye

Tigh-na-Camus (which means in Gaelic, House by the Bay) is a self-catering stand alone detached traditional highland cottage with a large extension on the back in a completely enclosed private garden. Tigh-na-Camus is situated in a fantastic rural location right next to the seashore & pier in the picturesque village of Glenelg, with uninterrupted and stunning views across the bay to the Isle of Skye. It is a very convenient five minute walk to the centre of the village, where you will find the local grocery shop and the Inn with its restaurant & bar, which throughout the summer months frequently has traditional live music.
Only a short drive will take you to the neighbouring villages which hold a host of other amenities.
We offer a reduction for your 2nd week, plus no extra cost for any four legged companions that week.
The location so close to the shore & pier is excellent for anyone who likes to canoe, paddle board and swim. Also the canoes and paddle boards can be easily stored at the back of the house when not in use.
Tigh-na-Camus is an excellent location for Munro climbing as it is very close to Sqritheall which has a height of 974 metres, with its stunning views, as seen from some of the pictures.
When i was growing up Tigh-na-Camus was the police house in Glenelg. We added a large modern extension at the rear. This incorporates a bright spacious fully equipped and fitted kitchen with a traditional pine table for breakfast or informal meals. Also on the ground floor is the modern bathroom with a curved shower as well as a double bedroom with twin beds. There is also a lounge and a large dining room plus the added bonus of the sun room.
On the first floor are two double bedrooms both with spectacular views over the Sound of Sleat and the Isle of Skye.
There is also an upstairs toilet.
With its comfortable separate dining and living rooms, large modern kitchen plus the sun room, it is an excellent & surprisingly large house right next to the beach to appreciate the wonderful scenery right outside its door.
The large bright sun room at the front of the house is a wonderful place to sit and relax at any moment of the day; the spectacular view across the bay to the nearby Isle of Skye presents a breath-taking vista of unspoiled beauty and can be appreciated in all weathers and is a great favourite with visitors who can sit and wonder at the infinite beauty of Mother Nature.
Tigh-na-Camus sits in the middle of a large private enclosed garden. On the patio situated just outside the kitchen there is a picnic table and on the other side of the garden a bench to relax and enjoy those uninterrupted views southwards down to the Sound of Sleat and across to the Island of Skye.

Tigh-na-Camus details
Access is by a key pass after 4pm. PLEASE remember the 4 digit code once received.

Private off road parking at the back as well as a parking area at the front.
Reception rooms: 1 large dining room, comfortable sitting room & large sun room at the front of the house

All electric radiators throughout the house have individual controls.
Electricity is included.

Kitchen details:
Induction 4 ring hob and oven.
LARGE fridge freezer.
Microwave
Washing machine and separate tumble dryer
Full sized family dishwasher
Filter Coffee Maker (filter papers provided) and a Cafeteria
Coffee Bean grinder
Kettle and toaster.
A Crock pot / slow cooker
A handheld liquidizer
Rice cooker/ vegetable steamer.
An electric hand held Food Whisk
There is also a selection of cook books.
A high chair is always available and if requested in advance a child's cot at no extra cost is also available.

There is an extensive library of books (adults and children's) to enjoy, as well as an assortment of DVDs in the living & dining rooms
There is also a hair dryer in each bedroom, for your use.

Two well behaved dogs are allowed (small additional charge per dog). No dogs are allowed upstairs, on the beds or on furniture and we would appreciate it, if dog owners would please remove any mess which is done in the garden so as not to spoil the pleasure of the garden for the following guests.
As there is a problem with sheep in the area, could both gates PLEASE be closed securely. This is another reason we ask that dogs do not go on the furniture as the sheep dung which dogs easily walk through gets trapped in their claws and then leaves permanent stains.

Despite some wild weather at the start of the week, Tigh na Camus was cosy and warm. We will miss the stunning view. The property has everything that you could need. We hope to return next year. A stunning place.

Wonderful property in stunning location
After a long delay on the journey to Glenelg, we were delighted to unwind with a glass of wine and watch the sun go down over Skye from the beautiful sunroom. We were in Glenelg last year for a long weekend and were very envious of the people staying in Tigh-na-Camus as we walked past each day so booked our stay for this year as soon as we got back home! The house is very peaceful and welcoming and has the best views of anywhere in Glenelg! We spent most of our time in the sunroom watching the ever-changing scenery and looking out for dolphins and seals - sometimes they came quite close to the shore in front of the house. The house itself was spotlessly clean and very well equipped for self-catering and it was good to have a private parking space at the back. The dogs loved the big garden. The village shop stocks the basics and the Glenelg Inn does excellent food. There's also a microbrewery near the Brochs which sometimes does pizzas and is well worth a visit. On the way home up the Mam Ratagan Pass we saw a pine marten, which was a bonus. Thank you, Myra, for sharing your lovely house with us - we will most definitely be coming back!

Lovely cottage to get away from it all
This is the 4th time we have stayed at Tigh-na-Camus. It is in a beautiful location and an excellent place to get away from it all and relax. The cottage is very comfortable and has the best sunroom on the front overlooking the water. Will definitely book again.

Very restful holiday
Having holidayed in the Highlands for 50 years in rented accommodation Tigh-na-Camus rates as one of the best, most particularly the wonderful sun room with spectacular views. A great way to unwind was just to sit and take in the great scenery.

Beautiful Glenelg!
Perfect location to explore the area. We enjoyed the sun room immensely: watching dolphins, seals and even a whale. We fished for mackerel, swam, kayaked, made friends with sheep and had campfires on the beach. Absolutely perfect!

You Won't Be Disappointed
When we originally made our choice of which home to stay at on our trip it was based more on location that it was the actual house. Because of that this was likely more house than two of us needed. Even so I would pick Tigh-na-Camus every time even if it was just me. The house has everything you need to be comfortable. The eat-in-kitchen is large and fully stocked with modern appliances and kitchenware. Greatly appreciated the washer and separate dryer. We only used them a couple of times, but really helps when reducing what you need to pack for a two week trip. There are plenty of different areas to relax so you don't feel on top of each other and then of course there is the sunroom. We spent many hours in that space appreciating the stunning views. While we only got to see one seal out on the water, the daily parade of comical sheep kept us entertained. Glenelg itself is a beautiful, somewhat remote village (which we appreciated). The local shop has plenty of options and is very competitively priced given it's the only option for some miles. The Glenelg Inn has wonderful food and the staff are amazing. Plenty of places to walk and fun finding shells and unique rocks on the shoreline. One warning. Midges!!! On our first night we walked to the pub and came back with about 100 midge bites. Wear long clothing and get some midge spray if you plan to be outdoors. The host was very helpful and easy to work with. We will definitely be back. Already miss it.

A peach of a place in a fabulous location
Having stayed in numerous self catering cottages over many years, this has to be one of the best that we have stayed in! The cottage is in amazing location with wonderful views of the Isle of Skye across the water. The cottage itself was amazing, it had everything that you would ever wish for and more. To add it is well maintained and spotlessly clean which is a credit to Myra the host, who kept very good communications with before, during and also after our stay. I would honestly recommend this property to anyone I know. Myra thank you and we will most definitely becoming back.

Tranquil and immaculate
We are on our way home from the most wonderful stay in Glenelg. The house is so welcoming and homely with everything you could need for a comfortable stay. We spent two days exploring Skye and a further few days exploring the local brochs and view points, Nevis range gondolas and landmark adventure park. The sunroom of the property is a real feature and we were fortunate enough to see a white tailed eagle on two occasions during the week as well as sea otter and seals on the ferry over to Skye. We Would highly recommend this property to family and friends wishing to explore this beautiful part of Scotland!

Highly recommended house and location
Just a fabulous location, amazing view from the sunroom, good local walks (low and higher hill level), lots of wildlife (including otter and sea-eagle appearances); and the house is a good size for 6 and very well provisioned. We all had a really great week, in spite of some pretty wild and stormy weather. Didn't quite manage the wild swimming over Hogmanay!, but a summer visit would be enticing for this. Also close to Skye in the summer months. Would highly recommend the house and communication with Myra who is very helpful. Thanks from all of us.

Such a cosy stay in Glenelg
We had the loveliest week at Myra’s place, we are the kind of family that likes to cook and there was an incredibly well stocked kitchen with every pan and utensil you could think of. The house is beautifully situated in quiet Glenelg with amazing views from the sun room and everything was immaculately clean on arrival. Lovely comfortable beds, good sized rooms to relax in and big bathroom. It was such a shame to leave! Lots to do nearby on Skye and Glenelg peninsula despite the weather. A memorable week!

Cottage was beautiful and clean with everything provided and a location to die for. We spent a lot of the week staring at the water from the conservatory window willing the dolphins to pay a visit however it must have been their week off too! We did finally get to see them in Oban so all is not lost. Visited lots of places and saw some wonderful sights , highland cows were very special as I just love them. Long drive ,9 miles each way, from the main road over the hills to the cottage but the views are spectacular.

Just back from a week in Glenelg. The cottage was great, the weather was perfect - and the views from the cottage absolutely breathtaking! Whether your idea of a holiday is lazing around admiring the scenery or out and about hunting high and low then Glenelg has it all. The ferry across to Skye opens up so many options for your trip - we used it 5 times in one week. The owner (Myra) was so pleasant to deal with. We will return! Patrick and Sandra
