Our Stay at Le Coin Tranquille
We had a lovely stay at Le Coin Tranquille, which was the perfect home base for our 8-day stay in Dordogne. The home is as lovely as the pictures and very comfortable and well appointed. John and Tina were wonderful hosts and, when we let them know we would be arriving more than two hours late, they were very understanding. Tina met us at the house, in the rain, and showed us around and helped us get situated. She left the makings of a lovely charcuterie board for us with a bottle of wine and it was so appreciated.
Our visit was in mid-October and we appreciated that the crowds had cleared out from the summer, when it must be so busy. Several of the restaurants and shops had closed up for the season, which didn’t both us, since we prefer to try to “live like locals” as much as possible while on vacation. We visited the markets in the villages and forged our way in Sarlat for food and sundries. We love to cook and, in all of our travels, Tina’s kitchen was the best equipped we had ever seen. It felt like our own. Absolutely every sort of pan, spice, dish you would ever need to make any meal that you desired were at our fingertips. We ate lunch out during our day but cooked the evening meal at the house and it became one of the highlights of our trip. Sitting in the cozy kitchen, drinking wine, and making a light meal of the freshest ingredients. And bread. So much bread.
In the evenings, we’d sit on the porch and look out at the night sky and at the shimmering
