Labastide-Rouairoux has spirit and charm, although it might not be immediately evident. Spend a little time there and you will know it is a great place to base yourself for exploring the mountains, gorges, forests, lakes, towns, villages and sea of Tarn and Herault. Bastide du Thore has an unassuming front onto the main street in the middle of what was once a thriving textile town, but its garden is an oasis of calm and the owner a fine chef. Take at least one evening meal option. You will not be disappointed. I was there for a week and the meals he cooks rival anything you can get in the bigger cities such as Mazamet and Carcassonne. Go visit the Museum of Textile, walk up the black mountain and if you are riding the Voie Verte make Bastide du Thore the place you stop along the way. For conventional tastes some people looking for a "hotel" might find the rooms a little rustic. Big wide old wooden boards, for example. I loved it. The atmosphere, the attentive service and the food. Big breakfast sets you up for the day and you can chill in the evening by the river without being bothered by mosquitos --- a massive bonus point for me. An excellent place to stay!
