Here is where the largest fresh waters on earth create a peninsula called the Keweenaw. Michigan's state motto reads: “If you seek a pleasant peninsula, look about you.” According to many folks, the Keweenaw is in fact the crown jewel of all the peninsulas in the Great Lakes State.

Although it is called a peninsula, the Keweenaw is technically an island. The Portage Canal divides the peninsula and may only be crossed by vehicles across one bridge that connects the sister cities of Houghton & Hancock, about 50-miles south of Copper Harbor. Keweenaw is the Ojibwa word for “to portage”, and the area is named for the short-cut the natives used in the early days when paddling birch bark canoes.

Present day, the Keweenaw is a unique blend of the old and the new. While its history is an undeniable presence throughout the region, entrepreneurs have managed to find their niche and have established themselves and their businesses, which brings new ideas and a fresh twist on some regards.

Cozy cabin on the cove
This is the first time i booked a vrbo....did not know what to expect...but it was smooth and easy booking and finding the cabin....everything in the cabin was provided to cook with but did takeout..being off season menu was limited but good..enjoyed the view of the lake...the sunrise was awesome..and everything decor in the cabin...outside excellent...was going to have a fire the second night but it rained...it was ok able to play cards and warched a little tv.....its probably just me but had trouble figuring out how to get local channels (ie.for news) but watched other shows..not familiar with streaming....would recommend a must stay....would like to.book again.when its a little warmer but this time of year ok too but maybe earlier in the month or september..the screened in porch.was.great especially with the rain and suprisingly a few flies this time of year...privacy and the sounds of the waves very relaxing..able to unplug

Hermits Cove
A wonderful setting on a beautiful beach. Great sunrises from the deck. Centrally located with short drives to enjoy the sights on the peninsula. The cabin was clean, other than dust-balls all over the wood floor. I would definitely recommend the cabin and will be going back.

Cabin at the Cove
This place was a dream to stay at. We spent a lot of time enjoying the beach, area falls and Brockway Drive. My husband and I hope to come back soon to that little slice of paradise.

A Great place to stay in the Keweenaw!
Awesome property, right on the water. Lots of nice details where considered to make our stay more enjoyable from firewood available for purchase onsite without any additional price markup to a blue light for finding Yooperlites! Don't know what that is? Book a stay and find out. :)

Great Hideaway
This was a very nice place to stay. It is right on the lake so you can hear the sound of the waves from the house. There is also a little area that is completely screened in so you don't have to worry about bugs but can enjoy the scenery and sound of the water. Another fun things for school aged kids/teens - there is a bunk house with bunk beds that would sleep two. It is attached to the porch and seems like kids would love to stay outside. I will say - there is no cell service (the house does have wifi) in the area so if you want to truly be disconnected, it's a great spot!

A piece of heaven....
Everything was absolutely perfect! A picture perfect cabin on the lake. The owners had everything anyone could ask for including even a Yooper light! The cabin was tastefully decorated and very clean. A perfect place to take the family to get away from it all.
