The town of Lake Lure is open, even though the lake activities are on hold. Come support our community and bring some love to this special place. Restaurants and shops are open for business and excited to welcome folks in.
Come enjoy our cozy 672 sq ft lakefront cottage with lovely mountain and sunset views. A beautiful, brief one hour drive from bustling Asheville, then four short steps from our quiet road and you will enter the top floor of the Turtle House, renovated to include modern amenities while still retaining it's rustic charm.
On the front entrance level we have one full bath (linens provided) with stack washer/dryer, vanity sink and tub/shower. Also on the top floor are two bedrooms. The first bedroom has a queen-size bed, ceiling fan and view of lake. Our second bedroom has a bunkbed with full-size beds above and below. At the end of the hall is an upstairs porch. Sit back, relax on our glider or chaise lounges and take in the views from your own private retreat.
Downstairs is the living area with original knotty pine paneling, comfy sofa and chairs. Our home entertainment options consist of books, games, DVDs, and Smart TV.
Adjacent to the living room is our kitchen complete with table for four, stove, oven, fridge, standard coffee pot, toaster, microwave and dishwasher to help clean up. If you'd like to move mealtime outside to the back porch, fire up the gas grill and keep an eye on what's cooking from our classic glider and chairs. Outdoor living is pretty sweet at the Turtle House!
While you are enjoying the scenery, mossy terrain, and boathouse deck, you will find for your convenience the second bathroom located off the back porch. Minimalist yet functional, it provides easy access to shower, sink and commode. This bathroom is winterized from October-April.
Take a few steps from the back porch towards the lake and you will be lured to the 10 stone stairs leading down to the deck on top of the boathouse complete with dining area, lounging chairs and some of the best views on Lake Lure.
Downstairs from the boathouse deck is the dock which will not be accessible through 2025. Due to the damage from Helene, the Army Corps contractors are the only vessels allowed on the lake until cleanup is complete.
The Turtle House is located on the northeast side of the lake. We are now a Certified Wildlife Habitat, an idea inspired by the turtles who occasionally come to visit our 'back yard'. Other wildlife sightings include hummingbirds, black bears, and bald eagles among others.
Selected as one of the ten most beautiful man-made lakes in the world by National Geographic, Lake Lure was built in 1925 and consists of approximately 1500 acres with 27 miles of shoreline. Enjoy the options for adventure or simply lounge on the boathouse deck whilst enjoying the mountain views.
We look forward to welcoming you to the Turtle House!
