Private Home With Sweeping Views! Extra-Comfy Bed, Fully Stocked,fast Wifi!

Solar powered sustainability life style located on 3 acres in the hills of Lakeside, CA! This retreat-like guest house is the perfect place to experience serenity and relaxation. As your hosts, we live in our own full size home, and your guest house is completely detached from our house. You are totally off the grid here! No telephone poles or electric wires blocking your view! Enjoy sweeping views of the surrounding mountains from your living room, bedroom, and private balcony. There is a king size bed in the bedroom and a twin size bed that opens for 2 additional people. There is a Weber gas grill on the balcony for grilling. Our kitchenette features a sink, full size fridge, toaster/mini-oven, microwave and two-burner hot plate with pots, pans, dishes, and utensils. Coffee and tea are provided.

We would love to leave you a bag of our freshly picked fruit, herbs, or vegetables if you'd like at your front door every morning, when they are in season. We are passionate gardeners and enjoy sharing with our guests!

Guest access

You will have your own 600 square feet private 1 bedroom guest house with a private balcony looking out to sweeping panoramic views of the countryside. Guests are also free to roam the 3 acre property to explore, birdwatch, meditate or just take a walk.

Interaction with guests

We respect our guests' privacy preferences. If you'd like no interaction, that is no problem. If you'd like to get to know us better, we are open and welcoming to that! We'd love to share tea or coffee with you on the lower patio, if you're up for some interaction.

We have a very sweet 60 pound shepherd mix dog. She is social and will want to interact with you.

The neighborhood

We love living here for the peace and quiet and off-grid homes, this is true San Diego countryside! We are about two miles away from Barona Casino, which has a great food court with plenty of international options and an excellent buffet. About four miles away is El Capitan hiking trail, which is known to be one of the toughest hikes in all of San Diego county. If you decide to hike this trail, be sure to read about trail safety, because it is very strenuous.

There is also reasonably-priced gas and a mini mart at Barona Casino. We are about 30 miles away from downtown San Diego and about 32 miles away from La Jolla, which is the nearest beach. The San Diego Zoo Safari Park is about 20 miles away. We are 10 miles away from the quaint town of Ramona, CA which has wineries and outdoor opportunities. If you'd like to try horseback riding, there are many opportunities for lessons nearby off Willow Rd in Lakeside.

We live next to several farms, so there are goats, horses, sheep, roosters, and cows nearby in the neighborhood.

Getting around

There is no public transit, but any car will get you around.

We have 2 cats and a sweet, social dog Zena who will want to greet you.

We have chickens, which provide us with hours of "chicken TV." They are truly entertaining and fun to watch!

Things to do:
I highly recommend visiting Torrey Pines State Park. There are many opportunities for hiking and seeing the beautiful ocean from the cliffs. You could also drive the Coronado bridge and then rent bikes and go down the Silver Strand from Coronado to Imperial Beach. If you want to stay close to the guest house, I recommend you plan to hike Potato Chip Rock and/or El Capitan Mountain (very strenuous).

This was our second time staying here, this time was 11 days. Everything was wonderful. Quiet, relaxing, beautiful scenery and excellent hosts. Zena their dog was an added bonus. Away from the hustle and bustle but close enough so as not to be inconvenient for everything we wanted to do. Our son, daughter in law and grandbaby live out there so we will be back.

What a nice stay. The host showed us around their property where various fruit trees and herbs are available in February. We became educated and enjoyed fresh tangerines, grapefruit varieties, and lemons. The eggs from their onsite chickens were also excellent. The guest house was comfortable for the three of us with excellent sunset viewing from the deck. The kitchen was adequately stocked with some leftover spices, condiments, and oil available. We left some ourselves. If you prefer to be in the middle of the city or near the ocean, this might not be the place for you as it is 40-50 minutes with slow roads and traffic to the sea and to San Diego. But if you prefer getting away a bit with day trip possibilities then this should work fine. It did for us.

Comfort and beauty, only 30 mins. from the city!
I was traveling alone to a reunion in the San Diego area. This rental on the Barona reservation in Lakeside was like a paradise! The unit had plenty of room for one person, and there was actually room enough for four people to sleep comfortably, as there is a second bed and also a large sofa in the living area. I loved the rustic decor. It added to the country feel of the place. I was on the go, thanks to attending four events in three days, but when I returned to the unit, it felt like I was at home, and I felt like I could truly rest, which I did. The bed in the bedroom was really comfortable. The unit has a small kitchen, and it is overall well-stocked with everything that a traveler would need to use. I met the host only when I first arrived. Victoria was friendly, accommodating, and unobtrusive. The parking space is right in front of the unit. I just want to mention that the road leading to the reservation is very winding, and care should be taken going up or down the mountain. The unit is very near to Barona Casino, which is a large resort with gaming, a buffet, food court, steak house, golf club, etc. There is also a convenience store with a gas station at the resort. The only thing I noticed that I would have changed: The ceiling fans only have two settings, which are high-speed and off. It would be nice to have an intermediate setting, but really that is only quibbling...This is an outstanding place to stay if you want a chance to be away from the crowds in the city!

We booked this property for a long weekend trip that we were making to the San Diego area to see a WWII Veteran friend who would be turning 100 years old. The property was as described in the listing and had everything we needed plus some!! We had a great stay with no problems. We were gone most of the days and didn't have time to explore the property but wish we would have been able to. The scenery was amazing. Did not get the chance to visit with the owners, just a quick wave and short introduction! Would rent this property again if we are ever in the area! Thanks!!!!

A Perfect Ramona Hide-a-Way
My wife and I completely enjoyed our four days at this wonderful property. It was exceedingly clean and peaceful with wrap-a-round views of California hills. My daughters and I stayed here five nights and were pleased with the location, wonderful windows/view and lovely flowers around the property. We purchased light breakfast foods and then were gone most of the day until after dark, exploring San Diego and beyond. Two of us shared the king bed which was very comfortable, and one slept on the twin bed next to the window. We were thankful to have ceiling fans to use at night with open windows. Plenty of dishes and a nice toaster oven to use. Easy entry and exit. Apple Maps brought us right to the property (after dark), but I was also thankful for clear directions sent from Victoria. I’m a light sleeper so I did have to adjust to some of the dogs barking at night or early morning as well as some helicopters — and it didn’t happen every night… my girls didn’t have any problems. And we had windows open every night. It’s at least a 30-40 min drive into San Diego, but we were willing to drive and explore. Great price for gas at the station nearby. The house was roomier than we anticipated and accommodated us quite well! We had a wonderful time and enjoyed the mountains and separation from city life! Thank you!
