Rustic Updated Cabin in the Heart of the Appalachian High Country

Our little vacation cabin is situated among the foot hills of the Appalachian chain and was built in the 1940s as a tenant farmer's house. It stands on our 15 acre property, up the hill, hidden and behind the big old farmhouse where my husband and I live. It is a quiet and private spot. You can watch the birds and see the stars. The cabin is surrounded by pasture land and a crop of Christmas trees farther up the hill.
We are situated in Ashe County in the farthest northwest corner of North Carolina, very near the Virginia state line. A fifteen minute drive will get you to Grayson Highlands State Park, and a twenty minute drive to White Top, White Top Mountain where there is access to the Appalachian Trail, the high end of the Virginia Creeper Bike Trail and Mount Rogers. The New River and New River Park is not far away. Helton Creek, popular for fishing is just across the road from us. If you enjoy old time and blue grass music there are many outside nearby music festivals during the summer months.
The nearest small town is West Jefferson where visitors enjoy wandering among small shops, cafes, a cheese factory that is open to the public, a brewery and a small museum in the old court house building. There is a Saturday morning farmers market on Back Street and frequent street festivals during the summer months. Boone, Blowing Rock and Blue Ridge Parkway are about an hour drive away.

Terrific solitude
If you want to get away from it all for a few days, this is the place! We were there for 5 days and never heard traffic or sirens... Just the occasional bellowing of a cow and birds chirping. Will definitely stay here again.

Great home base for adventure!
The cabin was a great place to stay while adventuring in Grayson Highlands State Park and riding down the Virginia Creeper bike trail. The setting is peaceful and we enjoyed watching deer and wild turkeys while sitting on the back deck. The cabin was clean and as described. We took the recommendations of the owner and bought basic groceries and had dinner in Lansing. We would recommend this cabin to friends and hope to return in the future!

Cozy cabin with beautiful nature all around
The cabin had all the features as listed, and the host, Rosemary, was responsive and helpful. There is a stream nearby with ambient flowing sound and a hill that offers a beautiful view of the surrounding area. I highly recommend the place.

Step away from the city lights
This beautiful property is extremely comfortable with everything you need. Beds are so comfy. The cabin has great WiFi and lots of choices for a quiet evening in, tv, games or a little fire pit fire. Check in was easy. Easy to find with GPS. Thank you for some much needed down time!

Was exactly as described. Not a high end cabin but charming and everything you need for a relaxing getaway.The most enjoyfull exception is how peaceful and beautiful the property really is. Enjoyed the little cabin in basically the middle of nowhere. The perfect spot to get away. We even cooked nearly all our meals there, which we almost never do! And I baked a cake for my husband's birthday. The kitchen was very well-stocked. The beds were comfortable and the water got nice and hot for our showers. Plus my toddler son loved all the cows out grazing everyday. We hope to be back again!

Great property, location, and management! Stay here if you can.
The cabin is tucked away in a secluded location with a branch flowing through the front yard. The property was scenic, and the house itself was well-appointed. The kitchen was HUGE! The bathrooms are adjacent to each of the bedrooms, with both bathrooms being cozy and comfortable. The house's water supply is spring fed, so the water tastes great! If you are iffy about drinking real mountain spring water, the owners supply a bottled water cooler/heater/dispenser. They had recently purged/cleaned the spring water lines when we stayed. We were notified ahead of time of what was done, along with instructions to notify management immediately if there were any issues. We discovered the water pressure was too low to shower our first evening, and it was too late in the day to get anything done about it that night; used the contact feature and the app and received a response almost instantly! They were very understanding and helpful. They provided an acceptable option for showers while they tried to get someone out to fix the issue. With it being the Fourth of July weekend, I did not expect they would be able to get anyone out there until after the holiday possible. The water was fixed the next evening. The communication with management was excellent. We have family less than a mile down the road and visit a few times yearly. I assure you that I will plan future trips around the Rustic Cabin's availability! Thank you, Rosemary and Ben!

Cozy cabin
Excellent private location. Perfectly clean. We stayed a week. Comfy beds and well stocked kitchen. Nice porch and back deck as well. Loved watching the cows travel down the hill each day. Great also if you are a bird watcher The bike ride down White Top Mt, Grandfather Mt, the galleries in West Jefferson, and the famous church frescos were our trip highlights. Only negative was the fabric soften on the towels.
