My wife and I found the staff to be extremely down to earth people. The small village of Gimmewald does not have a lot of amenities but we loved how authentic and unspoiled it is. There are many easily accessible hiking trails with outstanding views. The food at the hotel is excellent. I had concerns about having a room with a shared bathroom but that was no problem at all. I have traveled to all 50 states in the US and dozens of countries and this hotel was my favorite place that I have ever stayed at.

Pleasant, quaint atmosphere. Truly peaceful and relaxing. Would go there again.
What an amazing stay. The view alone was worth the trip but being located in a very small town right next to another hostel with like minded travelers there for the experience was priceless. Thank you.
A wonderfully authentic old Swiss chalet, wonderful hosts, majestic setting. What more could you ask for?

Can’t recommend.
The location is okay, but if you want more restaurant options it’s better to stay in Mürren.
The walls are super thin here and it’s disturbing. We could hear everything above us .. even the zipper on their suitcases. Footsteps and creaking boards are annoying.
There was no hot water for showering.
I would not stay here again.
There are way better places to stay for that price.
The hotel is everything they describe; historic, rustic, quaint, with beautiful views. The village is calm and quiet with beautiful scenic views anyway you look. Many hiking trails pass through the small village.
Pension Gimmelwald is charming, cozy, and beautiful! If you want top notch hospitality, yummy dinners with a view, and a truly charming Swiss environment, look no further. We loved the village, the people, and the view. A peaceful piece of paradise.

Rustic and clean place. Nice lobby / bar vibe. We had one dinner there which was simple and good. Breakfasts were totally adequate for all 4 of us. Highly recommend. There are lots of flies but that’s just the deal in the mountains. Loved the location - very quiet but super easy to move around by foot and/or gondola.
Our first trip to Switzerland was made better by our experience here. Sabine and David have put together a great operation. All the employees were so helpful and friendly. Our room had everything we needed for our stay. It was nice having dining options in the pension as well. Sabine was a pleasure to talk with about things to do and helped us make excellent plans while occasionally dodging bad weather and raindrops. Thanks to her we did it. Lastly, the relaxing setting of Gimmelwald and the pension were so welcome for Americans who hear leaf blowers and cars in their neighborhood on a regular basis. In short, we loved our stay and highly recommend you consider this property.

Rustic and Charming
This is an awesome rustic stay. Not posh, somewhat quirky, but charming and memorable. The hosts are very accommodating and welcoming. The restaurant and bar downstairs has a good breakfast and a dinner option available - the food was simple but fine. Rooms are small, with shared bathroom and shower facilities that were not my favorite, and not always very clean. But this is a really special place in the world and if you go in knowing what to expect, you will have an amazing stay.
Overall a nice place to stay. The ceilings are very low and rooms are quite basic. The beds were not particularly comfortable. But the restaurant was great and it was a fun place to get a drink. The town itself is very quite and there is nothing really to do except hang out at the restaurant/bar.
If you are looking for true Swiss mountain home experience and not a tourist hotel, this is the place for you.
Quaint quiet village. Pension Gimmelwald is a great hotel, gives you a true mountain village experience.
Rooms are spotlessly clean, staff is friendly and entertaining.
Home cooked meals are fabulous.
Highly recommend coming here.
If you want to experience the Swiss Alps in a true fashion, stay there. The pension is family run,you eat what they cook. There are no other restaurants around. There’s no tv but a room full of board games, fabulous views. Nights are quiet with only the stars and the sounds of the mountains around you for company. Sabine, the owner aims to please and is always busy finding solutions for unexpected events. No cars allowed and the only way to get there is with the funicular from Lauterbrunnen. For nature lovers and hikers a perfect place. It’s the “ getting away from it all” place. We loved it.

The pension is part of “old Gimmelwald” so is a bit creaky with community bathrooms, but it is charming because of that. The staff were amazing. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Pension Grimmelwald is the quintessential old Swiss guest house. Extremely friendly owners, great staff, good food & beverages. The location is beyond beautiful, village is tiny & the hiking is extraordinary.
