Modernised Stone Cottage in Beautiful Suisse Normande

This is a rural location in a small hamlet, ideal for those who want peace and beauty yet with easy access to activities and sightseeing. Just below the house there are walking and cycle trails. The whole property also contains the owner's house, several outbuildings, a garden and two fields where Shetland ponies are grazed. It is all securely enclosed so safe for dogs or children. The cottage itself is traditional, but has all modernised features including electric radiators for controlled heat in every room. Access to the first floor is by a spiral stair so may not be suitable for very elderly or infirm guests. The cottage is rustic in style with beams but the ceilings are high enough for everyone.
There are three bedrooms that sleep 8 people, and the facilities have been renovated
to provide one full bathroom with bath/shower, washbasin and toilet, one separate WC with hand basin and an ensuite shower to the main bedroom. So even if you are in a large family or grup of 8, you should never have to wait for the bathroom!
Downstairs the open plan living room/kitchen includes 2 sofas, dining table and chairs and a fully fitted and equipped kitchen with gas hob and double electric oven.
The double glass doors lead out to a gravelled south facing terrace where guests can dine under a pergola or relax on a sunlounger as you admire the flowers or watch the ponies grazing
There is a swing set for younger guests, boules for everyone and a table tennis that can be erected in five minutes. A toddlers' paddling pool is available on request.

Family holiday in Suisse Normandie
The area is beautiful. An unspoilt part of France that has much to offer. Jenny our host lives next door to this traditional gite. She met us on arrival and was hugely welcoming. Throughout our stay she advised things to do and places to eat. We kayaked, hiked, climbed and went on the luge. The gite has all things you might need to stay. We often cooked at home. WiFi was a little slow in some parts of the house but you just have to choose where to sit. 4g was very strong despite it being very rural.l so it didn’t really matter anyway if you have plenty of data. To get bread milk etc is about 10 min drive. Not far but just country roads so you don’t go anywhere fast but you are on holiday so it didn’t matter. The gite is very rural but you can walk down to Clecy in about 45 mins (it’s down hill) although a bit rugged in places so need to be fairly sure footed. And back up is in part very up hill but worth it for the incredible views at the top of the cliff. The gite was a good base for us and was plenty big enough for the 4 of us.

Absolute Perfection
There is so much to love with this place. 1. Wonderful walking and running trails nearby. 2. Built in entertainment for children watching the ponies get fed. 3. Magical cottage feel. Most importantly Jenny is a wonderful host. She is a kindred spirit who made sound recommendations, helped us navigate transportation and helped us shop for groceries. Anything that came up, she was there to solve. The best.

Lovely welcome in Suisse Normande
Jenny was a warm and welcoming host from the moment we booked the property, which was in a great location, complete with ponies, dogs, and peace and quiet! There is so much to do in Suisse Normande, you could spend weeks here and not do it all. We had plenty of room in the house, lovely outside space and everything you needed in the kitchen. Highly recommended!

A Beautiful Haven
We have just spend a lovely week in this traditional Gite set in the heart of the Suisse Normandy countryside. The host, Jenny, was so attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. The property was well equipped and the garden a welcome escape from the hot weather. There are some lovely towns and activities a short drive away especially in and around Clécy but also some beautiful walks straight from the cottage.

Perfect location for our day trips in the area. The host gave wonderful recommendations for places to eat dinner. And per her suggestion we spent time at a place we had not known about previously. We all loved it and are so grateful she told us about it.

Wonderful stay
The cottage had absolutely everything we could think of to enjoy our stay here and the location is stunning. Jenny was very friendly and our boys very much appreciated her letting them have a ride on her mare! We had a wonderful week staying at Jenny's cottage and would highly recommend it, whether you want to explore the area or just relax in the beautiful surroundings.

Wonderfully relaxing
Jenny’s gite was a peaceful, quite and relaxing haven to retire to after bustling days enjoying Normandy. The location is convenient to the D-Day beaches, Mont St-Michel, Falaise, and many other venues. The gite is accurately described. Jenny actively communicated prior to our stay. We were treated personally by Jenny and her pets with offerings of local cider and local restaurant recommendations. She was readily available for any issues while allowing privacy- the perfect host. Our children especially enjoyed the opportunity to play with Honey (the dog), pet kittens and see the resident horse and ponies. The upstairs room served as a wonderful ‘kids only’ zone One of the highlights of our European holiday is getting to know the locals- Jenny joined us on our last evening for cocktails and lively conversation filled with more information about the area and life in Normandy than could have been gained with a multi-day tour guide. All in all an excellent stay and a great value.

A little Gem
Well where do we start. Our hostess Jen was an absolute star. She couldn’t have been kinder or more informative for our first trip to Normandie. She exceeded our expectations as did her unique house. It is in a beautiful rural area so people be aware “ you need a car”, unless you just want to chill in the beautiful countryside. The local area is also lovely and a hearty walk to Clecy will not disappoint. Local cheeses and ciders are a must as are the artisan sausages with the delicious bread. We had our 2 dogs with us hence picking Jen’s house and we will miss the gorgeous honey and the ponies which my husband loved to help with. Overall we cannot recommend this beautiful place and it’s even more lovely lovely owner Jen. We miss u already 😔. A bientot Norte Amis The Smith/Browns.

An ideal family gite for lovers of animals and the countryside.
We spent ten very happy days here, part of the time with family staying too, and found the cottage quite roomy enough for us six. Having read and re-read the reviews I find it hard to add anything to Robert's helpful one below, but I will try! Jenny welcomed us warmly, and it was a pleasure and privilege getting to know her and her extensive animal family, especially Honey the dog, Ellie the cat and the ponies. Our young grandsons loved the animals, and Jenny clearly loves sharing her home. She gave the boys an excellent first experience of riding, making sure they were safe and encouraging their confidence. Thank you, Jenny. As for the gite itself, we found it well-equipped, with comfy sofas, and everything as in the photographs. There was plenty of hot water and the beds were comfortable. It was most useful having two W.Cs! Although the gite was a relaxed and functional family space there were also some lovely decorative touches, not least the gorgeous dresser with its attractive pots and jugs. Parking was the easiest we have ever encountered - a large level area of gravel adjoining the cottage. There was a big collection of local brochures and information, the Wi-Fi worked well, and of course Jenny herself knows everything about the area and advised us on restaurants/days out. We enjoyed discovering the Suisse Normande, especially the river at Clecy/Le Vey; the children enjoyed the water activities there and the luge au rail was great fun for all. We had time to visit Falaise castle and also Bayeux and the Normandy beaches - all ideal for day trips. For couples who enjoy French food we thoroughly recommend the Pomme d'Ouilly, just a few miles away, and best to book as it's quite small. Clecy is nearby (five - ten minutes by car) and has an excellent bakers, (pain au raisins the size of tea plates), a handy small supermarket, post office with ATM, and a pharmacy. Jenny's directions to the gite were immaculate, and we shall not forget the peace and quiet that surrounds you as the lanes gradually shrink and the views appear. Nights are totally silent, apart from occasional owls, and the local walks are a huge pleasure. To be in the heart of such country yet only an hour from the ferry was superb.

A lovely cottage in a beautiful location
Even with the owner's detailed (and accurate) instructions, we had some difficulty finding the location. Fortunately Jenny was at home when I telephoned and talked us in. We were immediately impressed by the lovely garden with its mature trees and shrubs and a highly vocal variety of bird life going about their business. The cottage itself is charming externally, comfortable and fully-equipped inside. The ground floor is a generously-proportioned kitchen/living room with full-size appliances including washing machine and dishwasher. Plenty of crockery and utensils. Everything was properly clean and tidy. A rather tight wooden spiral staircase (possibly difficult for any less nimble visitors) leads to the first floor where there are two bedrooms (not over-large), one with double bed and en-suite shower the other with bunk beds. There is a large modern bathroom (excellent shower over bath) with loo and washbasin and a separate loo next to that - very useful in all sorts of circumstances. More spiral stairs lead to the attic room, a large space containing beds enough for four plus a cot. There is adequate storage and plentiful towels etc. Back down on the ground floor, the flat-screen tv has access to British FreeSat as well as the full range of French programmes. WiFi works well throughout the house. There are plenty of books for reading and a range of local guides and maps. Effective electric heaters are situated in all rooms and we did have to make use of the downstairs ones on a couple of cool evenings. The cottage is located in a quiet little hamlet at the end of a lane and with no traffic passing; the only sounds we heard in a week (apart from all those birds) was the occasional lawnmower or visitor's car arriving. It is about ten or fifteen minutes drive to Clécy or a bit more to Pont d'Ouilly, both attractive villages containing a range of bars, restaurants, shops and friendly locals. There are waymarked footpaths (and cycle paths) from the gate and a lot of the walking offers spectacular views. Jenny keeps several ponies, a goat, a dog and a number of cats; they are all friendly - but this is not a place for anyone who dislikes having animals close by. The garden itself, partly gravelled, contains two tables, with chairs and umbrellas, and a portable barbecue. We thoroughly enjoyed our week here and will certainly be back....

Beautiful location..lovely gite
Enjoyed our stay here. Jenny is an interesting person and we were amazed at her stories. She has a menagerie of animals..3 shetlands, 1 nanny goat, 1 horse, Honey the dog, Belle the cat and another 8 cats who lived inside Jenny's house. All or most were rescue animals. Our gite was lovely and suited us well. The location was perfect for day visits to Caen, Falaise, Clecy and Beuvron en Ange (well worth a visit)

Excellent, warm welcome, lovely location with lots to do for the family a short distance away
Jenny the owner made us so welcome, the ponies, dog and cats added so much to the children's enjoyment. The house had everything we needed, there are beautiful cliff side walks on your door step and Le Vey (10 mins in the car) with its riverside cafes, water and children's activities and Falaise (25 mins) with its impressive Castle and enjoyable Aqua swimming centre. Lots too for the more adventurous with climbing, zip wire etc. I would definitely return and will be telling our friends about it.

A beautiful stone cottage, well equipped, comfortable, rural, but easy to get to many historic sites
When you first arrive thru the gates Le Chenai enfolds you in charm and timelessness. Lovely gardens and Bonaparte the handsome feline greeter. Jenny Ranson, our hostess was warm in her welcome and thorough in showing all the amenities of the cottage. We had also asked her some questions about things of special interest to us and she had researched and printed the information for us. We went to the events she found and had a great time. Every day staying at Le Chenai was a joy, the environs are spectacular and it was easy to sightsee in many directions as you made your way out each day. Then you came home to charm and peace and the musical chorus of birds. Lovely well equipped kitchen to cook in, comfortable sofas and beds, what more could one ask for? Jenny had most thoughtfully left us a welcoming bottle of wine which we shared sitting at a table in the garden surrounded by flowers.....perfection. I have always enjoyed renting a gite but I loved renting Le Chenai and would recommend it most highly, cannot wait to return.

Lovely and well equipped in a fantastic location
We spent a wonderful week here. Five of us, 3 adults and two children, comfortably accommodated in a very well equipped and beautifully maintained cottage. Jenny was on hand to advise on the area and where to go. In particular we loved "La Guingette" on Monday night at Pont d'Ouilly. You must walk across the rocks to Clecy and for those of an adventurous disposition the Via Ferrata climb and zip wire are fantastic. The house itself is quietly located but provides easy access to a wide range of activities and days out that we could not possibly cover in one trip. Bateaux and the D Day beaches are an easy hours drive away. There are a good range of restaurants in nearby Clecy as well as the immaculate Creperie situated in La Pommeraye serving a range of tasty crepes. The kids loved staying here, making friends with the ponies and other animals (one of the cats in particular), and enjoyed riding both here and at a ranch recommended to us by Jenny. A lovely and relaxing week. Thank you very much!

A relaxed and well equipped cottage in rural paradise
We received a very warm welcome with refreshments and flowers from the garden on arrival. The owner of the property could not be more friendly and helpful. She arranged horse riding for us and was able to advise us on where to eat, how to obtain a fishing permit etc. nothing was too much trouble. We used her high chair and travel cot for our one year old and she even offered to babysit. The cottage is well equipped with a comfortable lounge, kitchen and dining table downstairs and three bedrooms, bathroom, shower room and loo upstairs. We enjoyed talking to the resident goat, ponies, cats and dog and listening to the dawn chorus of the birds every morning. During a day of beautiful weather we sat outside at the large outdoor table and enjoyed a delicious al fresco lunch, whilst admiring the view. It's a beautiful part of France and the cottage is in a very peaceful part of the Suisse Normande, situated at the end of a no through road. We couldn't hear any traffic noise. Bliss! We could park right outside the door on the gated driveway, which was perfect as we had lots of baby equipment to heave in and out of the car every day. A very enjoyable stay indeed.
