Scruffy hotel but handy for station and shops
Delightful receptionist checked me in. I realised it was a cheap Britannia hotel, and only cost so much because it was the week of Labour Party conference. Dilapidated with some public rooms giving an idea of its former grandeur. Vouchers for everything. Didn’t bother getting a breakfast voucher, ate out each morning. Room got very cold by day 3, there was a thermostat above the top of the door so not accessible without a ladder. Blanket throw on the bed became a shawl. Hairdryer with a regular plug can’t be used in the bathroom which is the only place with a mirror. A shaver point was also up high just under the ceiling so it was lucky I didn’t need to charge my electric toothbrush. No main light, two table lamps operated from a switch by the bed which was handy. A single room with a double bed, pushed against the wall to make space to walk around. Five days stay, I hadn’t realised they only clean the rooms when the guest checks out. I just managed to have a cup of tea each evening before the supplies ran out, and as I was on my own there were enough towels to keep me going. There was an armchair and a desk chair which aren’t always provided in small hotel rooms. But I did need to make the bed as the sheet came adrift. The cold tap can’t be turned on without flooding. A very handy location for the city centre and Lime Street station, and the grand lounge area is good to sit in if you need somewhere a bit more warm and comfortable during the day.
Somewhere to sit and read, although a couple who came in for tea had trouble getting it!

Just really grim. Sinatra stayed here once and that's the last time they dusted the place.

Great old building in dire need of investment. Room cramped and lacking basic mod cons - such as extractor fan in internal bathroom. Very noisy room next to lift shaft. Poor breakfast selection, lukewarm food, frozen bread and no fresh coffee available as machine was broken for two days. However, staff were friendly and helpful, just fighting a losing battle.

From the photos and price we expected this to be a high quality hotel. The reality when we checked in was very disappointing. The room was basic and in need of decoration/refurbishment. Breakfast was not included. Check-in was very slow. Great central location very close to Lime Street station and lots of good cafes and restaurants.

For £185 I expected a very nice room, what I did get was a room with no ceiling light, table lamps where only one worked and then only after the staff wiggled a cable, a window that doesn't fully seal because it's 100 years old and secondary glazing on only half the window, no electrical sockets by the bed so my phone is across the other side of the room, no complementary Wi-Fi you have to pay extra, very very poor.

NO DAILY HOUSEKEEPING SO DO NOT BELIEVE WHAT EXPEDIA TELLS YOU No air conditioning- our room never went below 23 degrees! One day the heating was on full blast - the room temperature went up to 26 then! One day we asked the housekeeper in the corridor for clean towels and new toilet paper and were told “we only do the rooms on checkout “

Second Time using this hotel. Rooms are great and very spacious. Very convenient for me as it’s located near most travel options in Liverpool both Lime Street and Bus Station. Not too far away from the town centre either for those looking to explore the city as I did on a previous trip. The room as mentioned is spacious, warm and comfortable. The bedding is very comforting although the mattress can be rather solid.

Cheap and cheerfull
It was cheap and I got what I paid for. The room was a good size and clean, albeit tatty and dated. A lack of plug sockets was a bit of a problem. Overall, I checked in at 1800 and out again at 0830 the next morning so it ticked all the boxes for what I needed, I slept well and it was comfortable.
