I stayed at Madhatters for 1 night on the 9th October. After looking at your hotel reviews on expedia and your own website the place looked great and a bit quirky. Location was also very good. On arriving on the weds afternoon I was booked into room 210. I was immediately disappointed in the room. Dull, tired and uninspiring and with a view of concrete and rubbish. It didn't get much better unfortunately when I went to use the bathroom with mould and bad finishing to be seen across the bath/shower area and the toilet cistern. At night there was lots of noise from the main traffic outside and all also from other hotel residence at around 2am. Sound proofing basic sealed double glazing would have helped with this. I had breakfast in the morning and chose the avocado on toast and it was dreadful. Cold and a colour which looked like it would make me ill. I mentioned all this when I checked out after breakfast but the man behind reception did not look bothered one bit which summed up my whole experience of staying here. I know hotels within the city center can come at a premium due to their location alone but I would expect basic standards to be kept for £240 a night. I have been asked by Expedia to rate my stay but I wanted to give the hotel my direct feedback first before I do post anything online, mad hatter did not respond to my complaint. sums it up really.

Helpful staff. Fun to stay in a pub. Convenient to go to the pub for dinner and not have to go out when you are tired. Desk and restaurant staff bent over backwards to be helpful.

Chose this hotel because it was close to a work venue, the evening food menu had many things that weren't available and my eggs benedict at breakfast was very disappointing so i can't really recommend the food!

I’d highly recommend this hotel. Fabulous value for money in central london. The staff were polite and very helpful and informative. The room was clean and well appointed with great quality condiments. Breakfast was delicious with a good choice from the buffet and table service menu. Before our stay Luke was really responsive to my emails. He was working for most of our stay and was really friendly, approachable and helpful. It was so nice to have fresh milk in the room fridge, instead of the small packs usually offered. Bottles of water were also placed in the fridge for us. These were replenished every day. Its the first hotel we've ever stayed where there were facecloths provided in the bathroom. Ideal to have a safe in the room too. It was our 40th wedding anniversary and the room was set with balloons a heart and love birds on the bed which was lovely. The lady who cleaned our room daily was very efficient and friendly. We had room 304 which overlooked the back of the hotel. It was quieter at night than our friends' room (302) which was at the front, it did have secondary double glazing though. Not having been to London we had a black cab from Paddington which was £34. Our return we used Uber and was £25.73. We also used the Freenow taxi app which was excellent. My only wish was that the bacon at breakfast was available as unsmoked, as well as smoked. The breakfast was good. Cereal, fresh melon and fruits, yogurts, cheese/meats as well as full English. The lady taking our orders remembered everyone's perfectly somehow without writing down. Bar menu not huge, but what we had was nice. Just sad to hear that the building will be replaced by a new development in a few years.
