I liked that it was in the heart of downtown Los Angeles for a very affordable price. Would easily stay here again. As a female solo traveler, I felt safe staying here. The only thing I didn't like is that the window latch was broken during my stay, so cold air would seep through. Also, the water pipes aren't isolated well, so if someone is using the water, the noise would be enough to wake someone up in the room.

The hotel was a diamond in the rough. It was hip and clean. The pool was nice and the rooftop bar had yummy drinks and food. It was a vibe. The area is quite dangerous being a block away from the Cecil hotel. The staff were accommodating and it wasn’t hard getting transportation right to the front door. As well as coffee, groceries and a pharmacy very close. We enjoyed our stay.

Central located fun and funky hotel
Central location, great rooms (although can be noisy at night as not double glazed windows - bring ear plugs if needed!). Loved the roof top pool at night. Close to grocery store and local things like the Central market etc. Loved the music night with local songwriters - free for hotel guests.

The hotel is fairly convenient, taking around 10min walk from metro with restaurants and markets nearby. Staff was OK, the lobby is pretty cozy. However, the entire hotel, including the lobby entrance, were a lot darker than I expected. The atmosphere of 7th floor and the room inside were honestly a bit spooky (I stayed at the studio room, not shared). The room was spacious but older than the pictures. They have toiletries but you’ll have to request it. They don’t offer bottles of water or kettle so be prepared to get water at their bar on the ground floor as needed. I tried switching on all the lights in the room but it was still a bit too dark for me. It might be their style but it isn’t what I preferred or expected unfortunately. I didn’t get a chance to enjoy the hotel facilities though. Overall, the deal was fair and you may like it if you are into darker atmosphere. I believe their shared rooms are cheaper, which is worthy given its location. Hope the hotel can do some renovation (maybe upgrade to a smart tv?) or at least adjust the brightness of the rooms.

The Freehand hotel is a great place to stay in Downtown Los Angeles. The area around the hotel leaves much to be desired but the hotel property is nice.

While I don't enjoy staying in a room with other people who are almost always loud and inconsiderate with lights, I almost always stay here on every visit to Los Angeles bc its clean, elegant & the staff couldn't be nicer. The lobby is a royal palace, the rooftop is paradise. One time I made a booking and they canceled it for me which violates policies so I. Feel a sense of gratefulness to them in addition to all of the above
