Our Story

The very first pony born on the farm arrived in August 2018 and was given the name, Madeline. She is the smallest of the ponies and the most outgoing. She loves apples and carrots.
This is a working farm and has been since 1885. When you arrive you realize that this beautiful farm is constantly in a state of transition...from the gardens to the animals, change is all around. For this reason, a visit to Madeline Farms will be different each time. There is mud and poop and wildflowers and weeds and feathery, furry, hairy, creatures big and small. There will be plenty of opportunities to pitch in and plenty more to sit and rock on the front porch. It is truly a farm experience that is one of a kind. Sunrise on the front porch and early mornings with the animals should not be missed. Sunsets are equally majestic and will leave you with a sense of peace in your heart.
Important to note: Toddlers under 3 and infants do not count towards our maximum of 12 guests since often they sleep with you or in your room.

Your life on the farm
• The garden provides a variety of food depending on the season and when fruits and vegetables are ready to harvest. I am happy to share with you info about what is ripe in the garden when you arrive. Eggs from the coop are gathered and provided each day. Bacon from the farm down the road is provided unless you requested otherwise. It will be found in the fridge when you arrive.
• In the evening, you are welcome to gather wood from our shelter and light the bonfire. I am happy to assist you with this experience if you need help. The ponies will gather nearby, as you gaze at the stars and roast marshmallows.
• The Sunset Hayride is the highlight of your stay. Typically, it lasts 30 – 45min and covers a wide expanse of the field. We try our best to time it to the sunset, but it is always dependent on weather and field conditions. This may require flexibility on your part or an understanding if we are unable to set sail. We do our best to make it happen and have a 95% success rate.

The farmhouse was updated with a mid-century modern vibe. The kitchen was appointed and designed by a local chef and the stunning farmhouse table was custom built for Madeline Farms using the wood right from the barn. The guest rooms rival any hotel accommodations with luxury bedding, our signature "Sleep Well" mattresses, spa robes and towels. Though you're on a farm, luxe amenities are included with your stay.

What to pack
• Clothes that can get dirty
• Rubber Boots, or Hiking Boots (we have a few pairs to borrow if you join me with the animals) these boots will live on the back porch or mud room and should not be worn inside. Hose your shoes or boots off in the yard…you will be glad you did.
• Shoes that cover your toes and can be worn on field hikes (keep them in the mudroom or the back porch, they should not be worn in the house if they were worn outside on the farm.
• A hat to protect from the sun or to stay warm
• Comfortable clothes to sit by the bonfire and to play games
• Long socks to protect your ankles
• Bug repellent if needed
• There is a large red cooler on the back porch if you need to store additional beverages or ice that will not fit in the fridge.
• Marshmallows, chocolate and graham crackers for the bonfire. We have roasting sticks and firewood
• Carrots and apples from your fridge for the ponies and horses.
• Coffee (We have grinder, sugar, filters for our drip coffee makers)
• There are a 3 grocery stores, 2 drug stores and one liquor store in town. Shopping here is often easier.
• The BEST stores to visit for farm to table food are Willow Grove Farm Market and Fairview Grocery. They stock the staples, are locally owned, less than a mile away and carry locally sourced items from farms. Call ahead or look them up on Facebook for hours and inventory.
• Folks arriving from Interstate 66 and taking exit 13 should make a pitstop at the Apple House and pick up their famous Apple Cider Donuts for the house. You’ll be a star.
• You bring your toiletries and personal products. We have body wash for those who forgot and a hair dryer. We provide bed linens, towels and wash cloths.
• You are welcome to arrive at the farm any time after 4pm. Please text or call Farmer Tony when you are about 45 min away so I will be out front to greet you.

Farm Rules
• We value self-sufficiency and self-expression. Practice them here.

• We value compassion and patience and respect towards each other, animal or otherwise.

• We value escape from technology. You will not find a TV in the house, but we do have internet. HEE-HAW and HEE-HAW EXT both have the password “Madeline”. Challenge yourself to leave the phone behind when you can and take in your surroundings.

• Guest Farmers are welcome into the field with the animals only after getting permission from Farmer Tony or when he is with you. Do not cross any gates unless you have permission.

• Please leave the colognes and perfumes behind. The animals are sensitive to these fragrances. Plant based essential oils are always welcome.

• The barn, attic, basement and outbuildings should only be explored if Tony is with you.

• All guests are required to sign a farm waiver at check in.

• Have fun. Connect with the farm. Reconnect with each other.

• Madeline Farms is populated by many rescued animals. These beautiful creatures have endured hardship and neglect and are in various stages of recovery. They are home at last. All are expected to live long and full lives. Your participation in their care directly affects their health and happiness. It will affect yours as well.

Looking forward to seeing you at the farm!

Loved non-city farm moment
Our small start-up needed a place to think, break bread, and relax together. This was the perfect setting. We appreciated the layout with its separate-but-equal bedrooms and places to join together, like the lovely and spacious dining room and living area and amazing kitchen. But mostly it was nice to be outdoors with the livestock, including a turkey that seemed to get our jokes.

Absolutely amazing!!!
We came here for my friend's bachelorette party and it was such a unique experience. The sunset hayride, feeding chickens and collecting fresh eggs, and a big screen movie night on the farm, Farmer Tony is an excellent host! There's so much to do on the farm and nearby. The farmhouse is super clean, well stocked, and comfortable. We hope to come back!

A wonderful stay in the country with all the charms of country life
Host was charming and made the visit special for all of us. Home was full of warmth and had everything we could possibly need and want. The host had several special activities planned for us and made us aware of things to do in the community. He charmed all 3 of us girls, from 7-68 years old.

Christmas on the Farm
This was our second stay at the farm and it was everything we hoped it would be. We did not have the opportunity on our last stay to enjoy the farm at all. This time we enjoyed a sunset hayride, feeding the animals, collecting eggs, the fire, cooking in the kitchen and playing games. It was an amazing experience.

Incredible!
This place is amazing! Immaculate doesn't befin to describe how clean it was. There are so many small derails that are thought out to make you feel so special. We were staying there for my daughters wedding nearby. It was everyone's favorite part of the weekend and we hardly had anytime there but to sleep. It was unanimous that we have to return for the full experience.

Wonderful farmhouse experience!
Our family wanted a farmhouse setting for an outside micro wedding and we chose Madeline Farms. I can't put into words how perfect, wonderful, charming, heart warming and welcoming this property and our host Tony was. Tony has a heart of gold and all the animals adore him. The house is beautifully decorated, gourmet kitchen and immaculate. A fun sunset hayride. "what time is it?" We can't wait to return. Thank you, Tony!

So very lovely!
We all loved our Farm Stay at Madeline Farms! Farmer Tony was a wonderful host. He stocked the kitchen with fresh eggs for us, and carrots and apples for us to feed the horses and ponies! This was a socially distanced, hiking get away for us. And this was the perfect spot.

Amazing stay!!
This was a lovely getaway with an exceptional host! Farmer Tony greeted us and showed us his beautifully updated farmhouse and was there to share history and help whenever needed. We were able to feed and interact with the animals including chickens, ponies, horses, cows and a sweet donkey! The house was incredibly clean, spacious and well appointed. We did a hay ride and roasted marshmallows under the stars. We will absolutely return!!!

Best VRBO Experience ever
Farmer Tony is an awesome, friendly host. The house was immaculate, organized, and well stocked. The two toddlers in our party loved the up-close experience with the farm animals. (Honestly, we all did.) And the sunset hay ride was so much fun. We WILL be back.

Beautiful and very peaceful
From the "contactless" check in to the ringing of the bell as we drove off Farmer Tony made our stay a great one. The house and farm are better than the photos and the entire house was spotless. The kitchen was a pleasure to cook in and my wife loved to feed and groom the horses and donkey! Farmer Tony was a wonderful host and a great resource for questions about the local area. The sunset hayride was beautiful and the fresh eggs, bacon and vegetables were delicious. If you are looking for a relaxing and peaceful place to stay this is your place. Thanks
