The hostel isn’t for family and it is on the train tracks, you can’t sleep all night.
A solid option if you have to spend a night or two in aguas calientes. Comfortable beds and a very helpful and welcoming staff. Unfortunately my room had a habit of locking itself and i then had to go to the front desk to get them to unlock it. The bathroom inside the room did the same thing so I was unable to use the restroom during the night. The noise from the train can be loud to some but quiets down during the night (and is somewhat unavoidable). The staff were so helpful though and let me relax in the upper patio after checking out and even hang clothes to dry up there too.
I would never recommend this property to anyone!!!
First, NO WHERE on their page do they mention you must take a train to get there. They do say they have a 24/7 front desk to help you, however I barely saw them! I was so lucky to find strangers to help me with the train.
The sanitary conditions are appalling!
-My two tiny pillows reeked of mildew and were stained
-The room smelled of rotten wood and other mysterious odors that drifted in from the HOLE in the wall by the shower head (you could see sky)
-The furniture had water stains
-Staff seemed irritated when I asked for an extra towel so I could mop the floors after showers since water gets everywhere
-fixtures in the bathroom and pipes are rusty
-The TV didn’t work
Worst of all the walls are paper thin and they have a bar upstairs that you can hear every movement! The last night I stayed they started blaring music, constantly shouting, playing my pool etc. I asked politely a couple of times if they could quiet down or when it closed. This all continued well after 10pm when people are trying to sleep!
Please avoid!
Good price for hostel, water was warm but not hot. Toilet would run if you didn’t jiggle the handle and toilet would leak if you didn’t stop it. Staff was able to fix it. Breakfast was adequate and included which was nice especially for the price. Bedding was comfortable and clean. Only thing I really wanted was hotter water, that would be the only thing stopping me from going back.
The staff was very friendly, but the property was disappointing. The restaurant/bar mentioned was not open — I’m not sure if that’s been true since the pandemic — but I understood that. However, there was mold on my bathroom ceiling. My largest complaint is that when I came to retrieve the luggage they held for me behind the desk during the day after I checked out (which was kind of them), I was able to walk right in, search the upstairs for staff (since no one was at the desk and the front door is unlocked), and — after not finding anyone — grab my luggage out of the closet and leave.
Knowing that anyone can walk in and explore the entire hostel and grab my stored luggage without encountering any staff or security measures (I had already checked out so I required no key to do so) makes me certain I would not stay again for safety concerns. Aguas Calientes feels safe overall, but this problem plus the fact that the hostel was basically empty just made it feel unsafe.

Made reservation...but they were closed!
Well...not sure how to review since when I showed up the hostel was closed and according to a shop owner nearby, they had been closed for a long time due to the pandemic. I had to figure out another hotel
The trip was great. The only problem was the reception is not 24 hours and I was locked out as I went for dinner late and couldn’t get back into the hostel.
it is a hostel.. so with that in mind it is clean safe and well located.. great value breakfast included if you just need a place to crash this is the way to go..
It was a lovely place to stay very central to town and train station The food you could buy at the accommodation was excellent and good value. The breakfast was also included and good. I would stay again.
Ecopackers Hostel was the perfect place to relax and unwind during our Machu Picchu trip. The staff was very welcoming and accommodating, the rooms were clean and comfortable, and the rooftop bar/restaurant was fun and eclectic. We would definitely recommend staying here to other travelers!
Front desk was friendly but bar / breakfast staff was terrible. She lay on a beanbag chair and watched TV. Never even asked if we needed anything.
Room smelled, beds soft and sagged, was noisy as it is right beside train tracks and the bar noise goes right down the hallways.
Would not stay here again.
